    Elephant in the room - action changes from the lore standpoint

    They don't make much sense.

    I'd like to hear a confirmation of one kind or another as to whether the dev team has taken the "gameplay > lore" standpoint in which the lore will not be altered but the classes aren't going to fit said lore at all, or if they are going to alter the existing lore to make the new actions fit to it.

    I'm just assuming all this lore will be removed so they care very little about it.

    Like THM...it's np for them to destroying the class if the lore will change to actually fit BLM later...

    I just find ironic that, in a try to add identity, at least at first glance, they actually did the opposite. Now the classes are very similar to FFXI, where they're all the same...you see, RDM, BLM and WHM at FFXI are very similar...WAR, DRG, SAM too...here you had unique mechanics for every class (like comparing FFXI BST, SMN and PUP...each one had it's own, unique style) but now you have the mage and the melee concepts. Other than MNK (which i'm curious to see) the other classes are exactly the same...MRD, GLA and LNC seems to be the very same thing and CNJ and THM too...exactly like the FFXI example above.

    I do want to see how they going to adjust lore to fit this...and R.I.P. THM, one of the most complete classes i ever saw in a game...a class that could do everything...seems like it was too good for the "standards" of this dev team. Hoppefully we can meet THM again in another game! o/

    We could argue about class identity all day long, as it is an interesting subject, but I'd like to draw the attention towards the lore in this thread if you don't mind.

    Well I'm under the impression that the existing lore will be changed, especially going off the new class descriptions they put up. Thaumaturge's stands out the most:

    Thaumaturges are casters who command spells of the six elements to wreak havoc on their enemies. Their unparalleled devotion to the realm of magic endows them with the largest MP and smallest HP pools among all the classes. Though known for their inherently weak defenses, thaumaturges are feared for the destructive forces they wield. Specializing as a black mage serves to further strengthen class characteristics and also increases MP. Black mages are able to invoke devastating spells of ancient magic and subdue multiple enemies with a single cast.
    Sounds like a lore change/re-write to me, IMO.

    I can see what you mean.

    The classes had pretty good lore background to begin with, hopefully the new lore won't be a huge downgrade from the status quo.

    Up until now, they made every change fit well to the lore.
    Like when the monsters grew bigger and all the NPCs noticed and wondered about the reason.
    Or this whole 7th catastrophe thing which will alter how Eorzea looks completely.

    But I really want to see how they will do THIS now, because it changes so many things in such an extreme way..
    Just implementing it without explanation -> extremely bad.
    Saying stuff like "Oh, we sent the fire, ice and thunder elementals to Ul'dah so they can help the Thaumaturges"..->still very bad.
    And please explain to me why a class which is so proud of being able to fight without weapons NOR magic now becomes magic based..monk..this does not even fit the Final Fantasy definition of MONK anymore, and certainly not the FFXIV definition.
    I bet it's going to just be thrown at us without making sense.
    Instead of writing "These changes are subject to change." under the new class system,
    they should have written in the beginning "The lore of this game is subject to change, so don't expect a nice story which makes any sense at all."

    ....until it's finished. Don't expect shit to make a whole lot of sense until the game is in a finished state (2.0). There was a vision for the old classes and the old game and it sucked so we got this new guy and he has a different vision so we're going with that now. There are going to need to be some changes for his vision to make sense, so he's making them.     Normally, I would agree with Arcell. However, Atoli has a point. SE is selling you the once-in-a-lifetime end-of-the-world experience for your paid subscription. I actually do believe you are owed an explanation (quite literally). It's the whole point of this phase of the game, in fact.

    Of course, it's too soon to assume there won't be an in-game explanation. There very well could be one on the way.
