Its the same reason just SE is taking a different path. Tell me why they NEED to have outfits exclusive and mount exclusives in a subgame? At least in Destiny and Battlefront there are not monthly subs. The fact that you're comparing the optional items sold in the mogstation, to companies that are using lootboxes, is just hilarious. Do I think the prices could be a little lower? Sure, or perhaps the same price and getting both Emerald and Topaz versions. Is the mogstation anywhere near EA/Activision levels of greed? Not really. At least in the mogstation, you know what you're getting, instead of gambling for it.

Also worth mentioning that just because square enix isn't being the most evil possible, doesn't mean they're doing the right thing.
Yes, it could be worse, no it's still not good.
~sigh~

Unless you play on console, technically there is a monthly sub for online play.
I prefer buying what I want vs lootboxes anyday, and I will pay a bit more to ensure that continues. It's why I like games like this and Warframe.
They need exclusive outfits to generate a few sales. Yes, you may not buy it, but there is always someone out there that will. and thats OK considering these items are purely optional. I still remember spending back in the day 35 bucks on a WoW mount.... if it makes you happy, do it. If it doesnt, don't.

Dude, XIV would still be printing money for SE even if the mog station didn't exist... They don't "need" all 183 macrotransactions.
~sigh~
How many items do they have to gate off for people to be concerned? You already paid for the items with your sub. Everyone seems to be so excited to pay again and I dont get why.
I don't mind that they offer things in the cash shop, but they need to be careful about how many thing they do. Even if it's optional, you don't want to have two tiers of players, normal fish and whales, who have a large difference in glamour via real money spending. And the more they rely on the shop, the more the temptation grows be unethical and use lootboxes/gacha. I kind of feel that video games in general are moving to price most of their fans out of being fans with the sheer amount of cost to enjoy content. SE is much better than most when it comes to that, but there are so many $15+ optional things that I worry a bit.
See thats the point though. People are so brainwash with this "its just optional" or you dont have to buy it. Its not about that its about SE taking my sub fee, taking my money from my retainer and taking the box sales and saying thats not enough let me sale you more stuff that I know you want. Its not right and I have a right to say it isnt.Unless you play on console, technically there is a monthly sub for online play.

I must make all the SMNs jealous.

I think you missing the point. Its not about how much people use items...im pretty sure that no one uses EVERY mount they get all the time. The point is that SE decided they wanted more money and they are making you pay extra for it. Its not enough to pay your sub, or for the game or for SPACE TO PUT YOUR IN-GAME ITEMS (no one ever address that we pay for space in a sub game) but now they are putting exclusive emotes, outfits, mounts and housing items in the cashshop. Fact is I dont like this mount at all..the point is people shouldn't have to come out of pocket this much for a game that ask for a montly sub from millions of players.
They're still making mounts available in-game. I'll start worrying when that is no longer the case. It's a common business tactic in the present day for MMO's to have optional items for sale regardless of the presence of a subscription fee. Is it ideal? Not necessarily - but then many people, if given the opportunity, would rather have everything for free. That Square Enix has multiple ways to acquire more money should not be a surprise to anybody.
