They can, quite well in fact. They got enough throughput for that.

I generally put a Regen on me and the mammet and occasionally use cure while pretending the DPS doesn't exist or force the DPS to retreat by handily beating them in a 1vs1 through the combined powers of "Balance", "Teamwork" and "Coordination", then get back to mammets unhindered. As Scholar, I often just DPS the mammets and use the Flow procs to Lustrate myself up against the DPS - it's more efficient to just kill/maim them, but I usually prefer making a point out of showing them the futility of their efforts. Ranged DPS are easiest to ignore, melee can force me to use Adlo/Cure II and deal with them if they are good.

A single DPS isn't a threat to a healer, you can comfortably keep yourself and the mammet up and multiple DPS don't fare much better against multiple healers. It's not until you get sufficiently outnumbered that you might need to let the mammets die or even retreat, but if the team does that, you've already won, because you've drawn more enemy resources than you have spent.

The better solution is to fight broken with broken and put a healer on both sides. The demolition timer works in your favor, as mammets will eventually die on their own and neither of the healers will have the burst needed to get rid of the other. You can even hold two healers on your own, expending less resources than the enemy. That's efficient.
