Only reason someone shouldn't have a house is if they can't afford it or don't want it. Simple as that.

Reality; optional services can be limited. While not everyone has access and it is being spoiled by others who sell property in a way is fair game it does not prevent you from finishing the main story. SE does offer in rooms and FC can build rooms. If a player wants to build a home, must wait like everyone else. It seems hard, if people really want it they will find a way.

And while I beat the dead horse, even blizzard does it better (Garrisons in WoW) and XI (a now 15 year old game) while lacking in what it could do, everyone had a mog house. And no, let not get into the debate on how mog houses were ran on the data side. Point is, everyone had one.

Because SE has made housing limited it has done nothing but cause chaos across the board. If they had not made it limited in the first place, these problems would've never came to be and none of us would be sitting here arguing over who deserves what more or having to waste a GM time putting in reports of people flipping houses, etc.

It not the mind set of, "Everyone should have one." it the mind set of, "There should be enough houses if people want them." If you don't have the gil, tough luck cookie. If you don't want one, then don't buy one. Had this been done right from the get go, we wouldn't all be here right now.

FUN FACT and common sense; this is not a F2P or P2W option for housing, This is not Blizzard, for FFXI the housing is not set the way it is on FFXIV. ( played it since day one and still do ) If you have not noticed the requirements and graphics are different. Tthis is a completely different company than wow and better graphics in my opinion. If you can't wait feel free to play those for housing. Now in terms of flipping housing yes you could file a GM report, however you must proof that it is being does for RTM. Hence yeah you will have a very hard time. Otherwise when you think about it it makes sense to flip houses if they choose to. The subreddit where you can whip out your credit card and easily buy a house in places where nobody can legitimately do so via any in game means today suggests that it's exactly a P2W system.

Obviously. They invest money in their backend infrastructure. I mean, freaking Wildstar managed to have a housing plot for every single player, with more stuff you could do with it.

Actually, plenty of people were booted of by server issues when Shirogane launched, which is SE's fault. The entire rush was SE's fault. The problem now is SE's fault. The entire thing is SE's fault. YoshiP acknowledged that himself, he doesn't need you white knighting for him to pretend that everything is fine and it's the paying customers who are wrong.

Really? Because a friend and I were up at precisely patch launch, we closed every single background program and turned down all our settings to hopefully get through faster. We even switched discord to our phones to ensure nothing would clog up the game. What happened? The launcher crashed entirely, forcing us to then wait several minutes when it simply wouldn't load. By the time we were able to log in, we were greeted by a 1,000+ queue. So please, do tell me how we were "too slow" or "special"?

At the time of shirogane opening up - I was at work - I'm a Datacenter Technician here - and one of the perks other than downtime thanks to a well oiled machine...is access to a internet backbone (30-50MB/s (Thats B not b as in full blown BYTE).
I have a less than 30ms Ping to FFXIV servers - 2 network hops to the nearest front door.

That means that I will likely out run/out pace anyone connection time wise.

Didn't mean jack. You could have the best connection possible. Best timing possible....and still not get there in time.

The problem is your attitude and the mentality that its a fair game. Not so when you have an vast population of people who are buying their 2nd/3rd/or even 4th houses....and add to that the majority of people who don't have a home on top of that want one as well.

Like it or not...we are outgunned...outmanned....and scant resources for housing.

So please...stop with the "git gud" attitude...its stupid. SE needs to make changes...that's all there is to it. how that is? Is up for debate.

As for solution to this problem? All of the ones I think of are going to have a long list of con's...vs pro's. Instanced housing requires vast resources in datacenter terms (A world of which im VERY familiar with) - After all...if it was that simple...they would have done it already...no?

Same here. I have a house in the Goblet. Not where I wanted it but it is a nice plot and it a house and I was lucky enough to have a player contact me and willing to sell at a decent price. Which was still well above the plot price but, beggars can't be choosers when it comes to Balmung.

I did wake up for the opening of shirogane to try and upgrade to a large house and was met with the same slap in the face as nearly everyone else and met with people who had not just 1 but 2 houses. I have fiber internet, a decent computer. It not high end but XIV is installed on SSD and runs everything at max settings. I even turned down everything the night before just to avoid any trouble. Nope. Got kicked from the lobby server, then the client wouldn't light up the play button for nearly 5 mins. Came back up, hit with a lobby server error. By this time a friend on discord had gotten on and she said, "Cylla... everything gone." and I'm sitting in a 1k+ que like... "I don't even know why I wasted sleep over this." I knew the out come, but I tried anyway and failed like so many others who were met with the servers bottle necking.

Even with me already having a house, I was frustrated beyond belief. I can only imagine how people without a house at all felt.

I'm just hoping with 4.2, SE does something right. That it actually does become fair to everyone who wants a house and doesn't have to go through this chaos on every patch that has housing added. Just the same though, I do hope they keep the housing transfer system so that if people like me do want to upgrade to a larger house or even downgrade, can.

Oh my, oh my, such a philosophically rich and knowledgeable argument. How can I, a mere mortal, even dare hope to contest it?

Here's my story. Patch day, our FC had voted FOR trying to get into a Shirogane plot. Two officers were available to try and succeed in this. Me, who's unemployed currently, and another officer (whose name is Max, for practicality purposes), who managed to change his shift that day SPECIFICALLY to be able to give it a shot. We each took 50 mil from the FC chest, so we could have two people trying the same thing, so we could have better chances at one of us succeeding.
So here's what happened. I took the decision of staying up all night, just so I could download the patch as soon as it was available. Max didn't stay up all night, but woke up very early indeed, for the same reasons.
The night before, we wrote down aethernet names, test-drove optimal running routes, did various kinds of tests to ascertain if certain routes were more efficient by sprinting or taking the time to mount-up and then go, etc.
We were on different platforms, me on PC, Max on PS. We both were constantly re-launching, just so we wouldn't miss a second.
As you may remember (or not), the servers went up way later than usual. I started having a strong urge to use the toilet, but I didn't move an inch, because the server could go up anytime. Max ignored at least 5 phone calls, for the same reason.
So... at some point, finally, there was life. We started up the game as soon as humanly possible and... login queue of above 3000. For both of us. Around 3 minutes after, me and Max finally were in! Time to use the ferry skipper and put to use our previously-practiced routes and... oh... every single plot on every single ward has a name already.

So, o' sapient and exceptional one, I, very humbly indeed, inquire thee: How are we special, or slow?

Also, I generally don't like to bring ad hominem points to this kind of argument, but on this case, I have to bring this up.
It's not the first time I read your posts, and it seems to me that, in your opinion, the only kind of content that is problematic enough to warrant the need for changes is the content you don't enjoy/ haven't achieved access to. You've gone as far as brushing off the issues with someone with a neurological condition, saying that they should just turn off game sounds altogether, when the solutions that could be implemented to help the person wouldn't even affect YOUR game in the slightest.

You see, I'm usually fine with a healthy bit of elitism. But the good kind of elitism. As in, the one that defends that "there should be content that not everyone should achieve and that's okay, because that's what generates objectives and interest. And if you get there, well done, you deserve it".
You, on the other hand, seem to be specifically focused on not only you achieving content, but make sure that as little people as possible achieve it and enjoy the game, so you can keep your sense of superiority, I'll assume.
Now, I could be totally off the mark on this, but if I am indeed wrong, you're a damn good actor.

My opinion as to if housing should fall into " intentionally scarce content" is that no, it shouldn't. But not because it's housing. Keeping it scarce would've been absolutely fine, until the moment they advertised it and marketed it as they did. SE advertised it in such a way that now they have to make it more accessible forcefully. Hadn't they done it, housing wouldn't have become such a big thing, and in that case, it would've been perfectly fine to have it as "intended elitism" content.
But that'd be another talk, for another time.

When in a discussion, I usually like to do my best to put myself on the other side's shoes. I believe that's step one to keep any sort of argument as civil as possible.
Because that's how people reach conclusions and move forward, while enriching themselves on the way.
But I have a SEVERE difficulty putting myself in the shoes of someone with a mindset such as yours, as you've probably noticed from what I wrote up until now.

Unlike you though, just because I achieved x content, I don't instantly assume everything's fine, and I certainly don't go full "IT'S MINE, GET OUT" because "F*** everyone else".

That's what happened to my best friend. I got into the queue two minutes earlier than he did and that made a queue difference of thousands. I was the only one who got in while anything was still available. I had planned to camp Lavender Beds and get one of the houses when someone moved out becauase I'm not actually interested in Shirogane, but he was so upset... so I ported over, bought a house there, then relinquished it that evening so he could buy it. You've never seen someone flip back and forth between joy and rage so fast. He'd have cancelled on the spot if not for how things worked out.

I saw all these other people teleporting around frantically trying to find something, and it was frankly depressing when there's no technological reason why the issue has to exist. I know some of them cancelled over how it was handled. SE has those statistics, I bet the about face was due to a manager looking at the numbers and realizing that being a cheapskate on server capacity has revenue consequences.

He had absolutely no chance because by time the game even let him log in, the entire server was sold out again. Heaven help someone who has to work or take care of a family. I'd have been SOL if my four year old wasn't content eating breakfast for a few minutes to let me log in at the right time, and that's hardly what people want out of a game.
