    There's a chance that many long duration 'buff' skills may take the form of traits with the upcoming changes. Such as Soughspeak being a trait that reduces enmity incurred by casting, but also reduces attack magic potency. I can also imagine skills like Profundity or even Resonance taking the form of traits. This would allow each player to cheery-pick their traits in order to specialize towards what role they will play.

    You're not going to be able to pick traits, they're going to be static since you cant choose traits from other classes anymore making the old need to select your own traits is obsolete. Resonance and Paradigm Shift being traits would be stupid as it would make the two classes too similar and the devs are specifically trying to pull away from the two classes being similar/redundant.

    Actions will be set automatically. That was not said for traits though. One unlocks 11 traits for each class, and these traits are class-exclusive. Therefore picking which traits to use out of the 11 available to you on a given class is a feasible prediction.

    I never said SE said traits would be static I gave my reasoning as to why. We'll just have to wait and see; the only way picking traits would make sense is if they reduce the number of traits you can have set to about 5, 6 or 7 down from the current 9. But I'm pretty sure they're just going to expand it to 11 and have the 11 traits set static. I could bet money on it; it's what makes sense from the development stand point.

    Actually that's not quite true. Conflicting traits would promote choices. A trait that enhances attack magic potency at the cost of casting speed and/or healing magic potency for example would conflict with one that increases healing potency and reduces attack potency. Some traits for GLA/MRD/PGL could involve higher defense for lower attack power, and vice versa. Such traits promote choices based on style.

    Anything is possible, though given how clear they were in saying actions will be static, and treating traits separately in the post from actions and how they said certain traits will bring out the full potential of certain skills, I would say promoting choices is much more likely than a simple static 11 traits equipped.

    I think it would be really awesome if they went with a 'stacking' approach to traits. The only example I can think of is Section 8's trait system where you have a list of (I think 12 traits) and you have 10 slots. You can chose 1 of each for the most diversity of stack up to 4 of the same trait.

    So for example if you were about to take on a boss with a lot of adds, you could stack 4x Enfeebing+ and 4x Potency+ for sleeps and play with the other two while if you were going to just be nuking a big boss you could still go 4x Potency+ but maybe stack Enmity- and <element> Potency+ in your other 6 spaces.
