I had to use a VPN for a while to avoid some bad hops playing games over the years, XIV included. Your issues are basically text-book as far as your tracerts show. I would definitely try before you buy though- if you can't test it for free, use a very cheap service like MudFish where you only pay pennies for what you use.

Also, the state of California is having a severe issue with wildfires right now, so I wouldn't be surprised if infrastructure damage was contributing to your issue in some way. I have absolutely no knowledge of it's impact on NTT's service as a whole but it's something to consider. Undamaged lines may be overwhelmed by unusually heavy traffic if some nodes are down due to fire damage.

    Hello,

I had to reply because I am having the same exact experience not sure of the start date but past couple weeks have been getting an unbelievable amount of lag, it is present on both a wired PC and wireless PS4.

Nothing has changed on router/modem settings, I have contacted ISP which actually is also COX and according to them nothing has changed as far as what they are sending to me as a connection.

I have ports forwarded on PS4 but not PC and either way it's lagging on both devices.

And as you recently mentioned even trying to load FFXIV websites take forever to load.

If you don't mind me asking Ravenguard what modem and router do you have?

If you try out the VPN and have good results please let me know so I can look into it

    Hey
I am actually having this issue, been having it for a week now and barely allows me to raid. I have the same ISP too, Cox.
Gonna test out a few VPN's myself but hoping to find a solution soon!

I'm having this issue to NTT via Cox as well, it seems there is an issue with the link between ae-7.a00.lsanca20.us.bb.gin.ntt.net and ae-3.r01.lsanca20.us.bb.gin.ntt.net.

Hello! Thank you all for playing Final Fantasy XIV!

If you are having similar issues as the OP, we ask that you would create your own thread so we can assist you personally. I have posted the troubleshooting steps that would normally fix this kind of issue. If those do not resolve your issue, we recommend you contact your ISP. Seeing that you all have the same ISP makes me think there might be something going on there. If you get the issue resolved we ask that you would let us know what resolved your issue so, that we can assist other players.

    Thank you again.

Except that I have already done that. I've been struggling with FFXIV for this particular issue for over a month now, and when I originally discovered it during a FFXIV raid, I immediately contacted my ISP. They sent out a technician and even went as far as to replace my Modem/Router combo. At that time, however, I thought it was fixed as I hadn't realized that the issue was unique to FFXIV/NTT, seeing has how after the tech call/modem replacement I wasn't noticing any lag to other online games I was playing (never the case).

I can traceroute to any non-NTT point (Cox or otherwise) and have zero packet loss. So I'm not sure what can be done about this. As suggested in this thread, I can try a VPN service which will possibly allow for a different route, or just deal with it (and be unable to raid) until it's fixed.

I'll add a fresh traceroute later tonight to the existing thread of Data Center-related issues:

Agreed, SE's Engineers need to contact NTT's NOC to open a ticket and address the issue (or just remove NTT from SE's carrier blend). As it stands right now there seem to be an overloaded/congested link; the ae3 link from r01 to the ae7 link on a00 in lasnca20.

They definitely can't remove NTT as a carrier since NTT also owns the datacenters they're making use of to host the game and related services. But they absolutely should open a ticket for investigation if there are users experiencing degraded service once they reach the NTT-owned hops; Cox likely won't care about a few individual users, but they'll probably pay attention when another company comes calling. In the meantime affected users will have to find their own workarounds.
