It's none of your business what platform people game on, quit being an elitist. Stuff like this bugs the crap out of me, I have a PS4 and a Switch I don't go around acting like I'm some sort of member of a superior group they just have the games I enjoy and that's the end of it, if someone is having fun with their console who the heck cares if they are on PC or not?

Sony would not block them. However the big issue is that Microsoft makes it necessary to buy Xbox live membership to play online and that would be required for people to play ffxiv.

Yoshi said no deal. Inorder for people to play FFXIV on xbox, Microsoft would need to make having xbox live not manditory to play.

The nintendo switch is up in the air. To me the hardware limitations are what make me hesitant. Especially since it was launched in the middle of the console lifecycle.

Also I dont believe Microsoft will budge on the xbox live requirement

It's exactly this! MS wanted the ability to play FFXIV as part of your Live membership, which means you'd have to pay for both Live Access and also your SE sub as well to play the game. Which in the case of the Sony, you do not need PS plus to play FFXIV, both are seperate.

No, you need Xbox Live to play any online game.

An example is the F2P MMO DCUO.

DCUO is currently cross-platform with PC and PS4. They wanted to do cross-platform with Xbox, however, due to live restrictions, the deal ended up being Xbox players getting the game but exclusively on their own server separate from PS and PC.

PS+ is not required to play DCUO.


So in the scenario above, we would see Xbox getting their own server to play and Yoshi said 2 years ago they were not doing that. Have things changed? If so they were not in the article

I don't drive. How do you suppose I get my desktop rig to conventions. I don't have any friends I can call on to take me to the conventions, taxis are like £500 each way, public transport is a farce to get it to (I've done it once already). Gaming laptops have their place too. And I speak as someone who also has a custom-built desktop PC (not quite self-built, my cousin built it for me, but it's not a pre-build). Indeed, it's not the early 90s anymore. Look at the gaming laptops coming out rocking 1060s/1070s that are only slightly lower clocked (so minor performance differences). Consoles have their place too. And yes, I primarily game on my desktop PC (3 monitors FTW), but even I can see that consoles/laptops have their place even in gaming.

Looks like you need to go back and read the article again. You're info is old and outdated. Microsoft and Nintendo have changed their policies for cross platform play now. What's holding this back is Sony allowing cross play with other platforms. Right now a bunch of games could do it like Fortnite, Rocket League, and Minecraft. But Sony isn't allowing it. So right now games like Minecraft will only be cross platform play with Switch, X1, and PC. Says it right in the article OP posted.

True. The reality is that people buy a computer based on their needs. If they move a lot or need portability, then they can buy a laptop. If they don't, they can buy a PC. If they do both, they can acquire both like you did. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. I agree completely that each platform has its place. Speaking of laptop's specs, my girlfriend wants to buy the ROG Zephyrus, the thing is a damn monster...
