[QUOTE=Theodric;4494415when someone asks about male exclusive items during a Q&A session the responses are vague and/or dismissive. [/QUOTE]

You're absolutely right, though the same can be said about a LOT of topics he's asked about. They can't possibly cry 'server/PS3/engine/whatever the next scapegoat will be limitations' on simply adding outfits for half or more of the population (considering the census), can they?

Unless that really is it. Maybe there's only a limited amount of space for glamour items on the server, and they've been neglecting male items in order to conserve space for more cute outfits for girls?!

That's such rubbish. No one is telling them to stop making outfits for female characters, just to not outright neglect their male characters. Also this entire debate gets a really skeevy angle when you realize that many people who play female characters aren't women at all. But we don't get stuff like the bunny outfit because, supposedly, the male devs feel uncomfortable rendering it on male charas. Really twisted, that bit.
As for the census, I have 3 active ladies vs. the two active guys, but my main is a guy. Guess who I'll be more inclined to spend money on.

Ultimately, though, there's a notable number of people - myself included - who would buy something like Hien's outfit in a heartbeat if it was made available on the Mog Station. The development team need to throw more bones to those of us who play male characters.
It doesn't matter what's the population is - It's more the question which gender is ready to pour more of their income into the shop?
And given the galleries of some glamour websites there's a defining trend towards the female characters which the players are more willing to invest in, for fashion reasons, than their counterpart.

I really hope that's not why they're doing it because that's a stupid self-fulfilling prophecy. If to begin with you make more gear sets for women, and make a lot of the gear sets look better on women (I glamoured out of the Lore caster set as soon as I had the glamour prism and let us not speak of the WHM AF set), of course most people will invest more in glamour-izing women because the men's options are limited - that's the core problem, not something we should strive to reinforce.

Both GW2 and Tera do an excellent job at offering up a variety of glamour options with both male and female characters in mind. Some of which is designed to be 'sexy' whilst others is designed to be 'cool'. I'd wager there's other MMO's out there that do the same thing. There's absolutely no reason why FFXIV cannot embrace a similar approach.

Tera might be a bad example here, since they tend to go to the limit of what's actually appropriate, in more than one way.
They also race/genderlocked various classes, with Valkyries, Gunners, Ninjas and Reapers being female/elin exclusive. Thankfully they considered to add Brawlers to Human males after 2 years of being female human only.
I could go on at this said title, but I think you see the picture of where BlueHole Studios goes with their game.

Of course more people are willing to pay for good looking female gear, when they are given better and more designs than male characters.

Best return per investment. Welcome to business.
We might get Alphinaud's, Hien's and perhaps even Gosetsu's outfit in respectable time, but the females could also could get stuff from Alisaie, Krile and Yotsuyu, making it a 3vs4 deal here when taking in Lyse's outfit as the first costume from a storyline character in this expansion.
And, frankly, I am fine with that. There was a good amount of female cast going here, so I wouldn't be surprised if SE happens to go that way regarding vanity items.

The problem isn't so much the amount of female NPCs so much as how much effort goes into their design. The new raid is the best example, the one girl there got her own unique outfit, while her brother and father got clothes that were existing gear sets in the game. They're limiting their own male glamour potential. Even Hien, as much as I'd like to see it, is a variation of things we've been seeing since Tailfeather.
