Sony isn't going to play ball they already refused cross platform play in general, they have absolutely no desire to work with MS or Nintendo. Then again it's only fair play since I believe in the ps3/360 era Sony was shirked by MS about a similar concept. In short neither company wants to work with each other when they're in the top position.
Microsoft has extended the olive branch to Sony for cross platform, Sony has denied them seeing as they're on top and have no wish to share with MS. MS did something similar in the 360 era though.

I'm pretty sure Sony denied them for Minecraft because MS wanted you to have to log into a Live account. Sony didn't want that.
SE has not yet said that there are any hurdles with Sony on getting XIV on other platforms, and have only cited MS as the problem, with them wanting Live only servers, and Gold required.
I've not heard that, mind sharing where you saw this at?I'm pretty sure Sony denied them for Minecraft because MS wanted you to have to log into a Live account. Sony didn't want that.

It's exactly this! MS wanted the ability to play FFXIV as part of your Live membership, which means you'd have to pay for both Live Access and also your SE sub as well to play the game. Which in the case of the Sony, you do not need PS plus to play FFXIV, both are seperate.
I thought they went away from requiring gold for online games. It's exactly this! No, you need Xbox Live to play any online game.
An example is the F2P MMO DCUO.
DCUO is currently cross-platform with PC and PS4. They wanted to do cross-platform with Xbox, however, due to live restrictions, the deal ended up being Xbox players getting the game but exclusively on their own server separate from PS and PC.
PS+ is not required to play DCUO.
So in the scenario above, we would see Xbox getting their own server to play and Yoshi said 2 years ago they were not doing that. Have things changed? If so they were not in the article

But only if the players still have the option to play on "XBox only" servers, if i remember it right
I hope you mean the Xbox One, and not the old XBox 360
