Someone gets lucky and takes an opportunity to provide a service, for gil. You call that greed. You really make it sound like flippers are doing something good for the community while the truth is that they purposefully snatch away the houses from those that managed to come online and truly want it only to sell it for a higher price on the market board out of greed. There is nothing good out of flipping houses. You will just take away the chances for those that where online or are not the richest while it might even increase RMT thanks to the high amount of Gil needed. (Heck there was even someone selling a house for real money...really the greed by some is shocking)
The greed I see is someone saying "I really, really want a luxury item in a video game, and I should have it instead of someone who put in more effort to get it."

Greed or not, the game masters have stated buying a plot of land for the intent of reselling it is not permitted. Their actions (lack of) would prove otherwise, but that's what they've stated.
Yes I call it greed because they know its an limited source, that people want it badly and that people would pay huge prices for it. They chose to buy houses to make profit and not to use it. But not going to argue further with you on this. First Yoshida himself stated that selling houses for profit is forbidden so his word alone shows that at least most flippers are going against the rules and second, I do remember a certain topic where you wrote that you at least own four houses so I know why you are probably not liking the idea from the other poster.
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

So selling something that someone wants, at a price they are happy to pay, is greed. You want the system to change, presumably for your own benefit at the detriment of others, which is what I'm calling greed.
The word Yoshida used was translated as "exorbitant," not profit.
Very well said. I 100% agree. The housing entitlement epidemic is getting old.
Again, completely on the mark.So selling something that someone wants, at a price they are happy to pay, is greed. You want the system to change, presumably for your own benefit at the detriment of others, which is what I'm calling greed.

Lol no one is happy to pay way more Gil than the land is even worth. They do it because they're desperate and have no other way to obtain a house. Resellers preying on the desperate are greedy, period. They aren't looking out for other people, they are only looking out for themselves. No one should have to pay twice for a plot of land, when they're supposed to be at a set price that SE created. So selling something that someone wants, at a price they are happy to pay, is greed. You make it sound like buying a kidney on the black market to save their dying child. It's buying a digital Barbie dream house.
It's "worth" what someone is willing to sell it for, and someone else is willing to pay for it.
That's not even remotely true, everyone I know that pays alot of gil for plots is more than happy to do it. Gil is infinite in this game, plots are not. I know some people that have close to a billion gil, what else would you use it for at that point?Lol no one is happy to pay way more Gil than the land is even worth. What is it that you get out of owning a personal house aside from the personal garden and stable?
Why is it so important that you own a house that you have to log in at 4 am or w/e just to get one when the servers go up?
These are serious questions and just don't understand.
