Well it doesn't have to be.
The one from FFXI sounds cool, but it didn't sound exactly the same. I don't want to just be a mob, I want to be a primal!
It could be in some awesome new pvp map. (Heck, could be unlocked by reaching pvp rank 50, since it's kind of pointless now and it gives an incentive for newer players to try pvp, but that's just a thought...)
Or if they do the actual trial, it keeps track of the boss DPS so if someone is trying to let the others "win", it just goes "Turning on AI mode. Not enough damage from player".

I believe that the WoL is actually a primal.....

Certain mechanics would have to be implemented so you don't just wipe the trial. As an example, you'd easily win just beelining the healers, or cleaving the group, so if a tank uses an agro combo or ability, you won't be able to attack anyone other than the tank.
I think it would be fun if they could do something like this though!
Well, all you need to do is kill the healer and the game ends there.
It was mostly a joke thread, but if the suggestion is taken seriously, that's circumvented by not giving the player full control. Aggro would still be in place and would affect which targets are selectable. (except for special attacks that allow picking any random player), and by making it so that for attacks that are too powerful, the healer cannot be chosen at all. Cooldowns and other timers would also exist to keep power in check.
I spend so much time doing hunts that I've started feel a little sorry for the monsters in question. Getting to be a hunt mark would be the best thing ever to me.
And yeah, to keep it fair, they'd have make at least your auto-attacks and unavoidable sources of non-random single target damage obey aggro rules so you can't just gib the healers. Running over to them to do an avoidable AoE would be fine, though, since a ton of hunts already do that.
