Instanced Housing Seperate from Wards

I am all for instanced personal housing. Be it an apartment I can upgrade into a lavish penthouse with access to either a rooftop, backyard, or even conservatory style garden or be it a personal instance I could fully customize like chosing to live on a floating island or underwater. Either would have me leaving my ward for good (provided I could have visitors, I like having friends come sit on all my furnishings and help move things around).

The problem I see with this proposal is that it consumes server resources without returning anything back to the community. I've played games with separate instanced housing apart from any wards or other sense of community. Those housing instances are, for the most part, wastes of server resources as no one even so much as sees the vast majority of them.

There is no sense of community that I've witnessed on my server. In the 1+ year I've owned a house I actually saw my second player in the ward while I was at the MB last week. I waved and didn't get a response instead they just ran off. The same is true for the FC houses I visit when walking about. They are always empty and never seem to hold events. I had much more activity and chat when I was playing Wildstar and Rift. I see no reason for SE not to introduce instanced housing in parallel with the current wards. It will allow players to get a house and if they wish to wait to acquire one in the wards they still can. Instanced housing would also allow the limit on outdoor items to be lifted and to provide for a housing upgrade/downgrade path that is also hard to do with the current ward system. To be honest it is what they should have done when they introduced apartments but we all know SE doesn't always see the big picture.

If I got their answers in the interview right, they're gonna try spreading the next plots around so they won't end up in the hands of a few again. It's still going to leave the vast majority of players without houses though. So if they can find some other way to satisfy housing demands, why not? Let's not pretend instanced housing will diminish the social engagement of players. There's currently not much socializing in the wards anyway. What housing does most is incentivize players to staying subscribed. But maybe retention of players is not so urgent for SE right now and they've other priorities. Game is still selling, isn't it?

Where did you get this idea from just wondering.the latest interview had this in it..which to me seems there adding more to what ya have to have to buy a house like higher gc rank or seals or some thing

"The reason why we do not want to disclose any detail is that we want to give a fair chance to everyone. If we told you our plans, players will immediately start to prepare and we want to avoid that. That said, there will be more features and policies around this new addition, so please don't worry about plots selling out too quickly."

It's going to be random lotto isn't it? Except I don't know how you prepare for a lotto unless there are criteria that allow you to get multiple tickets for the same property.

Ive seen no mention of a lotto system other then by players..But i dont see how it be a lotto system with the statement "so please don't worry about plots selling out too quickly"(in the most recent statment)

I just wish they’d do something to compromise. Housing has so many features us homeless players would love to participate in.

And yet this is not a F2P game so if housing is all your really looking for Sims are always an option or a F2P game. I laughed. Though seriously people really just want access to some of the housing features. I’d be happy if we could have access to apartments for free companies and, or gardening in apartments. That would be enough for me. Until then, I’m gonna try to suggest some kind of compromise / some kind of middle ground. I’m not asking for wards to be taken away or messed with. I’m just asking for some kind of substitution for those who don’t have access to warded housing.

They said it clearly:

"Of course we are aware of this situation and we are looking into a different approach than adding wards to solve this."

"About players creating multiple accounts to buy more plots.... I'm afraid there is little we can do."

"Be assured that we are working on it and details on the new restrictions will be revealed very close to the release of the new wards in patch 4.2."

They're doing something to make the distribution of plots (the next ones) more fair but they can't announce anything early so hoarders can game the system again. Probably this time if they wanna hoard so bad the only way to do so is to pay for multiple accounts. But who knows, you know, is it really worth the money?

Is it possible to setup a server for all new instanced housing? I wouldn't want bigger wards either if it meant sacrificing the game's stability. But players need houses. Nobody likes being unwillingly locked out of content.
