    Then the people who edited those wikis are pretty much brain dead, if they cant remember something that was battered into thier heads almost every day at school from when they were 10, unless its 9yr olds editing those wikis, but I have never seen this problem because x,y is universal, the whole world use x,y and people have done it so many times its impossible to forget.

    It doesn't matter if they're brain dead or not, when you develop a system you should keep in mind the lowest common denominator to avoid such issues. It's the same reasons web developers still support IE6. Only 0.5% of your visitors may use it but you accommodate them because you want their money. Or in FFXIV's case you want their information to be correct.
