Fair enough, the cities do feel dull, and even FFXI had SOME roaming NPCs.First I'd like to see more NPC around town and not static one that juts stand there and don't move like statues. I wish they were more of them walking around, more guards in the city and that they salute you when you pass by them.
No. Nononononono. They would then be sinking a lot of money into just the voice acting, as little as it may be. in FOUR languages. This is meaningless and needless. Maybe for important NPCs like Y'shtola or Thancred, if you ever see them outside of instanced areas.Minor voice acting. Ok the game may not need full voice acted cut scenes like SWTOR but just a little speech whenever you click on an NPC or when talking to a quest giver would be nice and add some atmosphere to the world.
More elaborate quests is fine. Runescape (in before RUNESCAPE LOOOOOOL) had a really well done quest system, involving puzzles, plenty of craft, and the like. Maybe it's because the game was made in Java and that made it extremely easy to pull this off, but I don't see why we can't at least attempt it in FFXIV. However, I don't need, nor do I want, decision making. Unless it's something like The Witcher, it hardly makes any impact. Letting a meaningless NPC in a fetch quest live or die does not do anything for me in the long run. Maybe if they had major choices in the game that impacted the storyline, I'd be interested. However that usually leads to a really mediocre story. I'd much rather have them put more effort into one strong storyline than a few half assed storylines (good end, bad end, etc). I'd much rather keep that kind of "decision making" in single player RPGs, rather than an MMO.Different and more elaborate quest with choice. I played a game recently and liked how the quests were done, it felt very refreshing. I'll give you one example.
Except that's exactly what the quest is. You're just choosing which X you want to kill/perform. Again, unless they made the goals VASTLY different, I don't see why they would put this effort into something that people do for a quick cash grab. These type of quest feel very refreshing, especially when 90% of the quests in any mmo out there are always "kill X number of that beast and your done"
Boy this reminds me of WoW when Cataclysm was coming out. IT'S A WHOOOOOOOOLE NEW GAME. It's just disguising the same quests you've been doing for years under some make up.These type of quest feel very refreshing, especially when 90% of the quests in any mmo out there are always "kill X number of that beast and your done"
Another quest i had to do, was to interrogate 3 prisoners and decide their outcome based on the interrogation.(Set free, execute, etc)
The quests right now are more about story telling. How Garleans are moving towards Eorzea, life in Eorzea, etc. Granted, there are some really bland quests, but if you stopped skipping the dialogue, you'd know that it's about the story. The quests we have right now are quite terrible, as they are not even just "kill X number of beats" but most of the time, run around town or the world map to talk to that NPC, which in the end is even more boring.
To your last statement, I'm pretty sure they're doing PLENTY to separate themselves from other MMOs, along with giving us familiar events from other MMOs, and retaining some sort of FF vibe. Everything you've stated sounds EXACTLY like The Old Republic, and instead of trying to ruin this game for us, you should play that. Just my opinion, though.
