Until you get a BLM for your group, get 3 weeks in to prog, realize he cannot raise, cannot heal, cannot mitigate and cannot play any other classes.

Why do you need your BLM to do any of those things?
Also BLMs can mitigate as well as a RDM or SMN can - Addle and Apocatastasis (which is all the mitigation a caster can bring) are role skills.
