RDM: Does it get fun at 70?

    Hey everyone.

Well, everything is in the title: does RDM gets fun at 70? I am 64 at the moment, and I really find it MEH at best, 'cause I don't feel like I'm getting something new as I gain my experience. Since I've always loved RDM (that love story began with FF1), I decided to put aside my BLM and give it a try but yeah... I know that the notion of "fun" can change from one person to another, since it's really subjective but having your opinion on the matter could be the boost I need to go on and don't give up entirely on the job.

    Thank you!

(oh and sorry for the broken english ^^)

You get verflare and verholy, though they don't change the job too much it at all, they just add another potent spell after your melee combo.

But yeah, if you're looking for a job with some depth and complexity, RDM is probably not the job for you.

I was a RDM main for maybe two or three weeks. Then I got bored and went back to BLM. The effort vs reward feeling just isn't there on RDM.

yeah in-depth complexity you'll find on Blm or if you are a kind of sm-fatischist even more on Smn. RDMs playstyle won't change at all from 60-70 you just get more burst skills for your 2 combos with impact and the ver-finisher. Like Squigley I left RDM after 2-3 weeks and went back to my old caster as well (smn). : /

Thanks for your answers guys. So I am not crazy. Everyone is like "RDM is great" and since I tried it I was like "MEH" and it's a shame because on the concept alone of Red Magic, I believe something more interesting could've been made. Maybe I'll lvl it all the way to 70 but hey.. BLM is BAE. Wish we get some buffs for 4.1 though..

Well, they intentionally made RDM very easy to play, I don't think that's a bad thing per se. Many players like jobs that don't require too much thought or optimization while still being effective. That said, there's still some degree of optimization and cd planning on RDM (swiftcast and procs management to minimize jolt 2 usage), it's just much easier than what you have to do on other jobs. Anyway, it's not like BLM has a harder rotation, but at least when you can minimize your movement and maximize uptime with your tools (triplecast, swiftcast, manipulation and between the lines) it does feel rewarding.

Not sure, I also am hoping it gets different (more complex) at level 70 :/ so far it's... rewarding, but only as far as numbers go. Its gameplay isn't particularly interesting, although I do love the added utility that comes with instant heals and rez's.

I think I'll stick with BLM/Healers for now, and once I get RDM to 70 I'll use it for late night stuff where everyone is likely to screw up bad :P Even BLM isn't particularly complex, but it's still a tad more fun than what RDM appears to be. Maybe you could try that too!

I find the job fun at 70. It's not overly complex but you can tell the people who don't take it's nuances seriously apart from the people who don't.
For instance, Verflare gives 100% chance for verfire ready when black magic is lower than white, but its useless if you already have verfire proved. Therefore you should verholy for the 30% base chance for verstone ready, and verfire and thunder balance you out. And of course make sure that 21 points from your verfinisher doesn't throw you into the black or white. Mastering this concept is the key to double verfinisher under one embolden.

I mostly play BLM ^^ I wanted a change of pace. RDM seemed more.. dynamic? Yet I am bored to tears at the moment playing it
