Yes, we do. Which means we have responsibility to go along with that privilege. We have a responsibility to play well and optimize as much as anyone else. So, big pulls are expected, whether you like them or not.
You're in the wrong MMO, then. :/

My DRK lives for big pulls. Not only that, most of the tools FOR DRK are consistent with big pulls.
When I tank I do not like the big pulls, but felt pressured by healers and dps to do the big pulls. I know that when I heal I like to take care of smaller groups. Seen too many tanks think they can handle it only to blow all the mana using cure three. I found out many tanks do not know what protective cools downs are and then question if I know how to heal.
Frankly I might just continue to let my black list grow. I kind of wished that to pull multiple groups would be fatal no matter if it is at level.
They day they will reduce the number of pull and make every pull like a miniboss this issue will be gone.
Until then there is no reason to mass pull.
I personally loved the TBC and CATA in WoW for their dungeon difficulty (pre 1000 nerfs)
I mean, mobs hurted a fucking lot. You needed CC and be careful to not have more than 2 mobs on your tank or he could get OS'd.
On the other hand, there was way too many pack which made dungeon especially tedious and long. But wiping on trash was a real thing. (and I'm talking wiping on a normal pack that where you CC'd half of it)
There is no real CC in FF14 spare the BLM sleep. I don't especially think the game should go the CC route, but making trash an actual threat wouldn't be a bad idea. (and reducing the number of pack accordingly too)
Something they could (and should imo) also do is remove all those telegraphe. The problem with telegraph is that it doesn't force player to actually know the trash skills. You just stand out of any mark on the ground. If they'd remove the telegraph, (without even buffing trash dmg), masse pulling would be a much harder thing to do since most tank would simply face tank 90% of the trash aoe
I bounce back and forth between Tank and Healer. Tank being my main class. And I have to say without any hesitation I cannot stand tanks who do super pulls. Whenever I tank, I make it as easy for the DPS and healer as possible. I focus purely on one set of enemies at a time, doing my best to keep all focus on me.
As a healer, I am either consistently being targeted because the tank cannot hold all of that aggro, or I am unable to heal quickly enough. I have had tanks lose 90% of their HP immediately after healing them to full. Hell, half of them move without any warning and if I can't catch up to them, they are already dead. Not to mention it causes me to run dry on mana at ridiculous rates. Nothing worst than not being able to heal because I have depleted my MP. I have yet to see DPS be able to take out the enemies nearly fast enough to prevent this. And I don't fault the DPS. I fault the tank.
Rushing through dungeons like this is too chaotic and completely unfun.
Rules of Tanking 101
Step 1: Pull 2 groups at the start of dungeon and see how long it takes for the mobs to be put down; adjusting your pace depending on the information.
Step 2: Use Defensive cooldowns ALWAYS when pulling big.
Step 3: When in a boss fight, it is polite to let your healer know when you are going out of tank stance (I have a macro linked into the action to let everyone know I am now in sword oath)
Step 4: Don't be salty
Step 5: Have fun

I found your problem. Healing a mass pull is really hard if you don't know your kit. :PWhen I tank I do not like the big pulls, but felt pressured by healers and dps to do the big pulls. Test pulls baby, try em out. Most dungeons have two mobs you can pull together right at the start, so do it. If your dps is so low that you're running out of CDs, or your healer is running really low on MP, then maybe consider pulling smaller. Slower but less chance of a wipe. It's what I do.
