    It seems hugely unlikely this will be the case, it would be good, if you had a bar with x amount of "points" which it charges up, if it hit top it just does the highest potency like usual but you could hit enter at say 3/10 to do a 3rd potency, 3rd mp usage, 3rd the hate, etc.

    Would solve issue and be pretty epic, it would be like having 10 (or x) amount of tiers but with 1 spell.

    But ya know, Yoshi wont think of anything smart like this and it will be the case of having like a cure 3, deal with it!

    I'm just going to assume they'll have the animations change at intervals in your level. I couldn't see them removing tiers in spells w/o adding something else. There is always black mage on the horizon as well so that might add something in terms of a bigger fireball and such.

    i think there just getting rid of the names fire 1- fire 2- fire 3. but as each spell gets stronger (which we know the spells will get stronger as mp use and damage will go up), so as they get stronger the visual effect should scale also.

    but i don't think they should get rid of the name fire1, fire2 fire3, they are trademark blackmage and a final fantasy staple

    I'm in 'Wait and See' mode right now.

    They said that this was just the first part of a two part explanation. I'd rather have the whole of it before making any definite comments.

    I'm sure magic classes have a whole lot of questions that are likely going to get answered in the next segment.

    To be more standard with generic MMOs, you generally don't get tiers of any skill -- You upgrade them but they're all essentially just "one tier".

    Slowly but surely XIV is becoming just another MMO.

    They mention getting rid of tiers for every action and spell in the game which will make it less confusing for those who are not very good at things like keeping track of a lot of stuff(even though it's pretty simple when it's tiered spells i mean higher = better pretty simple)

    That said they also mentioned that the spells and abilities would become more powerful according to your level and there is no reason to think that the animations would not reflect this. It would not to be that hard for the game to know what level you are and cast a bigger and better animation because of it. I think it's pretty likley despite the vagueness of the original comment.

    Once this happens we can test this quite easily. For example I am a LNC. We get Doomspike and Doomspike II both have different animations. After the patch if a low level LNC uses the lower level animation while a higher level LNC uses the higher level animation it will basically prove what i was saying earlier in that the animations will scale just as the power of the spells do as you level.

    Any of the mages in the game can do a similar test. All you need is a friend or a alt character with a low level of the job you want to test and a high level and see if there is a difference to the animations. As lack luster as the animations currently are they did vary a bit by tier and i can't imagine they would just throw all that out without having new stuff tot take it's place. More so when people have complained alot about the lacking effects in the game.

    Support support support. I want to see that explosive difference and growth in my character's magic!
    Also provides a goal while leveling, to get to the that next 'more awesome' tier.

    Dumbing down too much is never a good thing.

    I don't mind the cleanup I guess, but I would prefer the name of the skill to actually change from Fire to Fire II or Fira, along with accompanying animation. This really is very classic FF and it just doesn't feel the same without it.

    I hope something like this might be what they had in mind.

    Probably won't work that way though... that in a sense would be keeping the same tiers. You have Fire I, then we get to X level you get Fire II now they remove Fire I from your list, highly doubt they would do something like this.

    I'd imagine it more like you learn Fire and it has (optimal rank 5), then eventually you get upgraded and and it becomes Fire (optimal rank 25). Accomplish the same thing but doesn't rename the base spell name.
