Agreed, this would be an ideal solution. I think if the demo countdown started as subscription expires, if a natural disaster occurs - or something out of your control i.e illness, then you have that leeway and it'd be much easier to get a family member/friend to log into your account and renew the sub as opposed to getting them logging into the game, entering house and so forth... I do agree with others - the housing situation definitely needs to be addressed!

Realistically, it doesn't. But anyone knows that, when experiencing great tragedy in life, it's the really small things that AREN'T going wrong that give you the hope you need to continue on and rebuild. Even if it's something as silly and ineffectual as a virtual house, it can act as a beacon of hope and a reminder that the whole world isn't really going to hell.

They are special almost entirely in their sentimental value, not in some sort of effectual way. They only become important for any one person once sentimentality is formed around them. I agree that SE should fix the housing shortage, because there's no excuse for that - it's just not good design. But them not fixing the housing shortage should not hinder and does not contradict their trying to symbolically ease the burdens of those struck by natural disasters.

I suppose I can live with this if done under special circumstances, but if this becomes a normal thing it needs reevaluating... badly. We need to address the bigger issues as a whole and not just put patches here and there.

As of current, one would easily consider this a special case when you simply look at the data. Looking at the time span of how consecutive these last past two weeks have been for the States and Mexico as a whole alone, and comparing that to any other normal circumstance and one would see this could be considered 'special'. Harvey, Irma, Katia, The Fires, The Earthquakes, and Jose if it makes up its mind on where to go, have and could affect a substantial portion of the States and Mexico, which in turn have left devastating situations. Remember this has all been within the time span of a mere two weeks, if not a bit less. Also, hurricane wise, this is not a normal season. In fact, it was forecasted to be an 'above-normal' season, for hurricanes alone. So something of this magnitude was bound to happen at some seasonal point, just happened to be this season is all.

All in all SE is more than smart enough to know to not have this become a 'normal' thing, but you can't deny that with everything occurring in this short of a time frame, and how many it has affected, that this could be considered a one off occurrence.

Can we remove housing demolition all together? It clearly hasn't solved the housing situation. Many people will face tragedies in day to day life they must deal with. It's just a generally unhelpful system that harms people more than helps.

I'm all for indefinite suspension for this and every other thing that may arise, be it on a national or on a personal level.

I agree that it should be removed completely and replaced with an instant demolition option. FCs and individuals should be able to give up/demolish their house anytime they want and get a portion of their gil back. This would alleviate some of the current housing crisis and reduce the number of vultures on reddit selling houses for ridiculous prices.

Why on God's green Earth would you be worried about your in-game house if you were in fact, a victim of a natural disaster? If you do, then yes, you do REALLY need to reevaluate their lives.

What? That's the point. You're not worried about it. You don't have power. You've got flooding. You've got other obligations so housing is the least important thing on your mind AT THAT TIME. So it's nice for a company to realize you may not be logging in to the game to check on your house because you've got a full plate of other stuff to do, so they suspend demolition to ease some part of your already stressful situation.
