Can we remove housing demolition all together? It clearly hasn't solved the housing situation. Many people will face tragedies in day to day life they must deal with. It's just a generally unhelpful system that harms people more than helps.

I'm all for indefinite suspension for this and every other thing that may arise, be it on a national or on a personal level.

I would argue it helps as many people as it hurts. My FC would not have a house if not for the auto demolish.

As for disabling it temporarily, I can agree. However, Shirogane should not be delayed. It's a highly anticipated housing zone that many are looking forward to. It's unfortunate that those suffering may not have a chance at getting a place there, but I have no doubt the plots will be gone in short order regardless.

Removing it assures houses will forever be lost when people inevitably quit without relinquishing the property. I do, however, agree with a temporary suspension.

I mean, speak for yourself, but I know a countless amount of people that would have never gotten a house if not for the demolition system.

It's fine how it is, but in fairness since we got a delay from the japan earthquake, we should get one now.

No, the auto demo was needed, banned and players no longer playing at all got to keep their house, for example i could buy a house in shirogane and quit forever, and that house would be mine forever. (if auto demo didnt exist)

a temp suspension on the auto demo? i can agree with

Nearly a quarter of the houses on my server were hit by the initial wave of demolition. It might not have the best implementation, but it's necessary.

I agree that it should be removed completely and replaced with an instant demolition option. FCs and individuals should be able to give up/demolish their house anytime they want and get a portion of their gil back. This would alleviate some of the current housing crisis and reduce the number of vultures on reddit selling houses for ridiculous prices.

But it doesn't solve banned or players who quit who still would hold their houses which wouldn't help the situation at all, which is one of the reasons auto demolish was added.

If I had to quit for x months, maybe the house should be archived until I get back, which upon then it goes in a queue and gets auto placed somewhere at the next available opening. That way I can have my house and not loose all that progress on a house if I had a lack of funds or something.

I'm one of the lucky ones - I had family that lived close enough I could go to their home and crash since they still had power and therefore AC. So many of my colleagues, friends, and neighbors are trapped in their homes and have no where else to go. Hotels with AC have no vacancy. You know what you need during the day when everything feels miserable? Some sort of mental escape.

It took me 2 days to get to come here because all the roads up were either flooded, no lights, or had debris on them. I was under curfew as well - too dangeous for non-essential needs people to be out. I live in Orlando. After the first day of the storm, it was hot, humid, and I had a ton of damage to clean. So did everyone around me. McDonald's had a 3 hour wait for food because they were the only ones open and able to sell hot food - and even that took 2 days. It is in the 90s - and there is no relief in sight - as so many of us still don't have power. You can't exactly go out and do anything to take your mind off the heat and lack of agency to do anything about it. Stores, even major retailers, are closed. They don't have power either. Its too hot out to do much work outside. When you get home there is no relief of sweet AC. You know what there is a ton of time to do? Day dream to take your mind off the misery. You can only fixate on the damage, hope of the power company fixing things, scavenging for ice to keep all your food from rotting away in the fridge, trying to just cool down and not lose hope. Yeah, some people are living in terrible situations - thinking of video games, since you can't exactly play them - gives a bit of relief. You don't know what it is like. Stop judging people for trying to take their minds off of being miserable just 'cause you think our thoughts should be fixated on the misery a natural disaster brings 24-7. Our brains need a break from it! Yeah, thinking about something we love that is a major form of entertainment and stress relief we're currently being denied - is vital. When you start looking at bucket trucks with linemen on them like you are 8 years old hearing the ice cream truck, it SUCKS.
While the situation sucks, truly it does, on another hand: Lots of time for Reading Books.

I've plowed through a few of them so far. I'm just really depressed over this and want life to go back to normal.
