I'm from the UK and haven't been affected by this but I think it's a good idea and I fully support it. I'm actually sickened by some of the responses on this thread - I get that some people may not agree, that's fine, but to go to the extent to say that people's priorities are out of whack and that they need to get a reality check is harsh. I'm not sure whether the OP has been affected directly or indirectly, but they are showing empathy for the people that have been affected. It's called compassion, which some of you obviously don't have...

So how often would you suggest delaying aspects of the game?

Disasters (natural and otherwise) strike all around the world, all the time.

Would you suggest that they delay things, for example, when there are terrorist attacks in cities like Nice, in case some of those people were FFXIV gamers?

What if a tornado hits some cities in Oklahoma?

Just how large-scale does a disaster have to be before we "lack compassion" for daring to suggest that we move on with aspects of the game?

I don't think it's a "lack of compassion" to suggest to stay on schedule for something of this scale. While I do indeed feel sorry for those affected by the weather, to suggest it's not a very localized issue displays a lack of understanding of the scope of both disasters (Harvey and Irma).

I don't mind people disagreeing with the disagreements for delaying auto-demolish, but to suggest that it's a "lack of compassion" does rather infuriate me.

To auto-demos? All the time. Basically do away with them for good. I know that congested servers exist, and the Greg server alone can expect everything to be sold out within five minutes of Shiro opening, but that should not be an excuse for punishing people who cannot afford to play--whether financially or via time or energy due to real life issues--for a few months. It shouldn't disregard disasters that, yes, happen all over the world, all the time, and all to varying degrees.

It happens. A friend of mine was away from the game for a while due to being in and out of surgery--most of that being his doctor's fault--and entering his house was not on his short list of things to do when he got back online finally. So then his house demolished before he finally felt up to teleport to his place that he and his girlfriend had taken care of for quite some time. [/cont'd]
