The difference between dvi and vga is SO small though. I can see it, but only if I squint and pay really close attention. At a glance or even using it, you can't tell without comparing it.Ouch, that would be a deal breaker for me. I put together my rig for 3D and wouldn't be able to use it without a DVI or hdmi input on all 3 monitors.
because you showed off your rig, I feel compelled to show mine (I don't have a picture with FFXIV running, but it'd look like ass with 3d on anyhow)
What I'm having difficulty deciding is what angle to put the monitors at. Strait across is just way to wide, 30 degrees seems to far in. Also trying to figure out what the distortion angle is for ffxiv, as stuff on the ends is distorted pretty well.

Now with nVidia Surround!!!
MicroATX Desktop - i7 950 - 12gb ram - 2x GTX580
2x Intel 520 180gb SSD's in Raid0 - 3x 28" LCD @ 5760x1200
This is so ridiculous I can't comprehend
The difference is that without DVI (or hdmi), 3D will not function correctly. Since I upgraded my rig specifically for 3D surround, no DVI port would mean I'd have to replace a monitor. The difference between dvi and vga is SO small though. Ah, that makes sense. Do you do 3d and surround for xiv? What resolution? What graphics cards do you have driving it?

Also what monitors are they? I've been looking at 120hz monitors but they're crazy expensive, and since I have 28" now, i can't go back to 21", so I'd have to get the asus 27" which are $650, and thus why I'm enjoying my current monitors.

Honestly, it's more of an issue that you'd be going from 1920x1200 to 1920x1080. Hell I won't even use a monitor at 27" unless it's 2560x1440
You can buy curved desktop monitors nowadays. They are OLED screens.
They're also $15,000.
