I hope we get beastmaster or puppetmaster in 6.0...we need another summon class. No dots, all about the summon 99% of the time. A summon tank class can work if they think in creative ways though. We just have to give them a lot of ideas. Maybe like rotating between the summon tanking and us tanking half of the time or something. Like the pet has 50% of the hp a normal tank would have and then we have the other half and it heals at half the rate a normal tank would heal or something.
Because it's something that sounds like it works on paper but in reality it wouldnt if you actually look at its implicationa. Raid wide damage is incredibly varied across fights, having a defensive cooldown that is strong enough to eliminate the problem of a tank that takes double damage from aoe attacks would make this tank ridiculously overpowered in fights that don't have an abundance of AoE attacks. No other tank job has a literal 50% damage reduction.
And that's not even touching the numerous other problems that arise from such a job concept.
may I suggest a solution puppetmaster could different puppets one that take aoe debuff and one that take single melee damage to migrate debuff to
so when puppetmaster can change they puppet to take more magical damage is more look like mage puppet that you see in the lvl 60 damage and one to take more physical damage would be warrior types
And if the player messes up and picks the wrong puppet? We already have plenty of Summoners who go into content using the wrong Egi. Putting something like that on a tank is a ridiculously bad idea. Regardless of what abilities they have, a job that has to micro-manage a pet to TANK is a terrible idea, it would be inherently far more difficult to play compared to any other job and as such it simply isn't going to happen. They've just made the jobs easier to play for the most part, citing wanting the game to be more accessible and raising the skill floor. Taking a job concept that at it's very basis is overly complex isn't something they're going to do, nor should they.may I suggest a solution puppetmaster could different puppets one that take aoe debuff and one that take single melee damage to migrate debuff to

Also, Puppetmaster will likely never be a thing in FFXIV. They've already said they aren't even considering it for inclusion, and at most we'll see maybe one new pet job in the future and it'll most assuredly be Beastmaster as it's been specifically mentioned earlier this year as the job Yoshida would like to do for a new pet job in the far future.
I love this idea of different summons/puppets used for different purpose like shielding the puppetmaster or healing them as the puppetmaster tanks (this solves the problem of balancing the summon as the main tank). One of the puppets/summon can even do damage for the puppetmaster. This would be an interesting summon tank classmay I suggest a solution puppetmaster could different puppets one that take aoe debuff and one that take single melee damage to migrate debuff to

Yeah I think this is the way to for a summon tank class. The summons support the summoner as they tank and even do damage for them and things like that but the main damage is always taken by the summoner being in front of the enemy.
my early suggest of pet for beastmaster base on
Size
small pet range dps squirrel opo-opo aka monkey throw nuts and stuff small can be follow they owner in city-states a tribute to Nutkin
medium to large melee tiger, drakes, couriel
large to x large tank tricetops t-rex other large beast

based on arms, poles/stick and boomerang (like yuffie) are some options... and if they're planning on original job only for FF14, you never know. I mean, look at AST...
