    A bit sad, still, that tanks have evolved from beeing soaking as much tankyness as possible, to be soaking as few as possible in exchange of damage. I know people seem to enjoy it, but I've never seen any other game shifting so drastically from soaking damage to beeing a DPS with a heavier armor.

    emergencies are exactly what i was talking about. Beyond equilibrium we don't have anything for an emergency other than the HP gain from inner beast since thrill is mostly slated for upheaval dps.

    I understand what you're saying but the more accurate statement is that we shifted to soaking smarter.
    We stack multiple CD for TB, we ignore damage that doesn't require mitigation, we make full use of mitigation tools from the entire party, and as a result we are able to do more damage.

    The higher tank DPS should be a result of better mitigation, not a reason to mitigate poorly.

    I don't know, in every mmo I've played in the past there's alwasy some form of speedruns, so the meta of maximizing group dmg output (and in some cases movement speed as well, if it's a long dungeon/raid with huge travel distance) isn't something new that this game invented.

    Sure, but it's mainly designed because of high uptime of cooldowns combined to low sustained damage.

    A boss that would eat hp of about 30%+ every GCD would be way more of a threat and require less timed mitigation, but more overall management.

    Tanking stances offering damage reduction with low penality, would also go in the sense of making tanks sturdier, while dps stances would be used for OT/soloing.

    There are many numerous choices SE could have taken, to make tank tank and not let them use their passive mitigations with CD planning and nothing more. They simply chose not to. With the very few high level runs I do, I won't complain, but it doesn't make me wanting to invest any time in it, but I will not deny I'm quite busy elsewhere and it's part of my reasons too.

    Truly there are, but since gear is usually locked, stance is usually mandatory (because enmity is highly tied to it, and it brings more benefits of damage reduction than it takes away from damage dealt), and damage is more spread around constant damage with burst phase, than low damage with narrow windows of burst.

    The speedrun usually involves stacking synergy, or highly mobile classes, or best parsing ones. Etc..

    IDK about you but I've been tanking this way since Second Coil. Nothing new here tbh and I'm sure many longtime tanks will agree.

    ARR is not a longtime whatever, sure it's FFxiv's raid timestamp, but I'm generally speaking about pretty much all MMO's I played overall.
