IDK about you but I've been tanking this way since Second Coil. Nothing new here tbh and I'm sure many longtime tanks will agree.A bit sad, still, that tanks have evolved from beeing soaking as much tankyness as possible, to be soaking as few as possible in exchange of damage. I know people seem to enjoy it, but I've never seen any other game shifting so drastically from soaking damage to beeing a DPS with a heavier armor.

emergencies are exactly what i was talking about. Beyond equilibrium we don't have anything for an emergency other than the HP gain from inner beast since thrill is mostly slated for upheaval dps.

"I am bad and cant faceroll. It is the job's fault"
Aggressive tanks has always been a thing but it's really got popularized in HW harder dps checks and increased in tank dps abilities.
Back in ARR which was my first raid experience, I really didn't try do reduce my tank stance uptime as much as we do nowadays.
The community in general was promoting it as a much as today where it's almost the norm.
I mean back in ARR people wouldn't judge you as a bad tank if you stayed in tank stance all the time.
Streamer and fflog did a lot to change the community towards the aggressive tank meta we have now.

I was speaking of a more overall tendancy across MMO platforms, but I also think during ARR the DPS of tanks was not that high and quickly TP starved too (well, their all gameplay was TP starved In fact). Many job got some new CD with Hw or Stormblood, factoring more and more tankyness and thus, less and less tanking stance required.
Since HW the DPS meta seems to be the king, I would have personally prefered some other way around, but it's a personal pov and I wouldn't ask the game to change bidding my desires.
I think we are more on a communicative stance, now.
