    Can't speak for others, but to me the issue is that they tied BLM to thaumaturges in the first place. Part of the 1.0 storyline involved thaumaturges basically saying "oh heavens no. raising the dead? necromancy? no we definitely don't know anything about that--what's that, Neillefresne? You want to talk to someone who's already dead via a totally not necromantic ritual? Sure! Let me get my gear and we'll have that corpse talking faster than you can say dead elezen". If I were to hazard a guess, the 1.0 THMs were probably going to branch into that school of magic at some point, which is alluded to between the constant (and unconvincing) denials and ongoing rumors at the time.

    Granted, I don't really care whether BLM gets a version of Raise or not (I lean towards "not"), but I don't think it's something that can be easily waved off.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

    Wrote about this before, but Ul'Dah wiped Sil'Dih out using an udnead plague brought about by the Traders' Spurn. Which is why these two guilds hush the rumours (since Ul'Dah conveniently altered the history books) and have to be on the constant lookout (the very same undead plague could also wipe Ul'Dah if it's brought about again).
    To make it worse, there are stashes of the thing still in Ul'Dah (some ARR quests deal with this).
    This should be the gist of it, unless I missed some particular quest detail in 1.X...?
