It took me only a couple wipes but no one left and we eventually downed it once people figured out the mechanics. Overall I liked the difficulty and I don't feel it needs to be nerfed.

It was around the 6th or 7th clear that i got the card. On a group that failed the first try(some ugly mechanic misses) and won easily on try 2. So i can confirm that the card exists, it drops, and hopefully it wont take you too long.
I'd rather not have content nerfed for the sake of triple triad collecting. The content difficulty will decay naturally anyway and if you really really struggle to farm it now, wait until it is old and easy. Your argument is like saying that farming Thordan for its mount was impossible when it was current and needed to be nerfed there and then while blissfully ignoring the fact that by 3.4 the fight had become really easy and manageable by PUGs, and mount farming was no problem.
Lambda, he didnt actually call for a nerf. He just pointed out it was going to take awhile to farm his card because of some annoyances(like good people bailing early - which i agree is lame).
No more nerfs!I don't think it needs a nerf, and eventually it will be decently simple for overheard clears (I don't think it's iLevel capped) and it will see an echo eventually. I find it a pretty enjoyable fight overall, and it's been fun to see how I can get better at it as I have done it more and more. I will be happy when that card drops though
A few months into Stormblood, and I still enjoy running Royal Menagerie. Sure, you sometimes get those bad groups that simply cannot clear it and won't adjust to the proper mechanics, but most of the times you end up with a group that at least has some grasp of the basic mechanics of the game. After all, a lot of mechanics that Shinryu uses have been used by other story bosses before.
Royal Menagerie certainly isn't enough to make me stop doing Trial roulette every day. Heck, I still tend to have more issues when I end up with Ravana NM...
Got the card on the 8. clear Run.
3 groups, countless wipes and I have now finally completed it. Pfew. Feels I just shortened my life with 20 years.
LOL I feel ya, I stopped doing roulette so I won't have to bail if it pops.
I think part of why some groups just cannot do this is because their tunnel vision is pretty bad and gets other people killed. I was trying to get a very casual DRG friend who gets easily frustrated from stuff like this through the fight last night and the offtank (who did not do his level 70 job quest - he was still in level 65-68 gear) kept getting said DRG killed because he wouldn't get close to the MT at all to soak up the Akh Morns in the final phase after he seemed to get it in the first one. Not to mention if you somehow miss the tail and it doesn't die the fight just lasts longer and can gradually wear you down.
Kinda stinks because we were really close to beating it but we will get it next attempt I'm sure. So far it seems that anyone we get who immediately complains upon getting into the fight is the person who is going to die a lot and bring other people down with them.
By the way, does anyone know what the green spike marker in the 2nd phase does?

I think that might be a semi-good thing. If players have to weather this fight it gives SE more breathing room in terms of difficulty. People will complain less about a fight that is harder than anything in HW/ARR MSQ now if it is easier than Shinryu. The bar has been raised and the community should hopefully adjust.
Its been a while but isn't that the marker that judges where the tail will land?
