Most people in this fantasy game are playing certain race/gender combinations. Marketing is smart and will put these in the promotional materials because those same people who made their characters a certain race/gender will look at the pictures and go "hey! there's me doing that thing!" or "Hey, I like the character on that poster!". Pleasing the majority of your playerbase is a good idea. It's not anymore complicated than that.
