I personally think healing comes first for healers and as a healer personally it bothers me when i see healers do damage at all during parties but its ok as long as they keep healing a priority. You shouldn't be damage dealing unless the whole party is at full HP in my opinion. But that's just my opinion people play the game differently and i'm not going to tell someone how to do their job.
My goal as a WHM on raids is to keep my group up, then my dots up. If I have extra mana and GCDs, then I will toss out a few boulders but generally I'm busy healing due to progression. The only time I go all out is on the opener or a long transition when I am full or near full on mana.
Then you see my issue. There are even healers who only has few jobs over 60 but 1 at 70 which is their healer and they cant. I'm also talking about those who actually mained it and done the content for weeks.
These healers exist already too many of, and I honestly don't care if they dps or not, that's how they want to play? Sure thing for me. However if they can't keep people alive that's another story. I do agree with you, some people shouldn't que up in duties where healing is required and they don't even do it. This goes to tank and dps as well.

You can have the opinion that's fine, but just so you know 'factually' this game doesn't need nor benefit you to play a healer like that. This game just isn't made where everyone needs full HP at all times and to do so is a severely wasted effort.
If there is a healer who is very new and/or unskilled and they HAVE to play that way due to those reasons then well you do what you have to do to make sure no one dies, but the skill level required to play a healer even just average is not very high to begin with especially now that Cleric Stance has changed.
A healer learns the flow of incoming damage and when tank busters and AoE damage is coming to make full use of regens and their GCDs and a healer also learns when a tank needs healing and when he is still way above the death imminent threshold.
No good healer would DPS focus and let people die.
A good healer will keep everyone alive.
An above average healer will keep everyone alive and contribute DPS as well to help out.
So basically this whole thread is just OP ran into bad healers...that is going to happen sometimes just like I run into bad tanks and bad dps sometimes.

Any healer with a brain knows that healing comes first. You should never dps to the detriment of your group, but there's nothing wrong with letting people drop a bit before healing them; knowing when people actually need healing and when they don't is part of being a good healer, so why not utilize that knowledge to make the most use of all the actions available to you?I personally think healing comes first for healers and as a healer personally it bothers me when i see healers do damage at all during parties but its ok as long as they keep healing a priority. There is no apostrophe in Au Ra.
Stop adding one three years later.
I would say this is the biggest factor. For ages healer's were being told they need to DPS more and more. Not to mention you have a lot of DPS main's who are now trying to heal. There is a learning curve to the timing.

My advice? Next time you get a healer that DPSes just kick them ASAP. They're just looking to get carried, especially if someone dies while they do so. I have a strict one death/one kick policy with healers and tanks.
