SCH is definitely a high ceiling job, but once you start to master the tricks you'll start to scoff a little everytime you see a thread bashing their utility. Yes when SB first came out it felt like SCH had been ravaged unnecessarily, but with the recent changes it's now back to being a viable pick in many situations.

Changes to excog, ET, indom, and having miasma II back are all pretty significant. Now if only some changes were done to fairy AI...

Also quickened aetherflow is a hundred million times better than the 20% chance we had before. Am satisfied (kinda - I'd still like some further changes, but it's miles ahead than what it was at the start of SB; feels good without being ridiculously easy like it was in HW).

Scholars are STELLAR for roulettes; if it's not working out for you, that's on you. I pull 1.5k DPS on trash while having zero problems healing

The difference here, is that I'm nudging 4-5k (And have seen a 10k on certain large pulls with optimal CD usage by the tank) on trash packs and averaging 2.5k - 3k across the instance including bosses in the 70 dungeons on WHM.

SCH's raid healing seems to be back on track now, but IMO SCH went from being the subtle champ of 4 man content to being rather underwhelming now =(

On a side note, they need to extend this to SMN as well. The supposed master of DOTs went from having 4 down to 2! Returning Miasma II to them would be nice bonus, but it's just wishful thinking at the moment...

Now that's quite true; we do not pump the DPS like we used to, by any stretch of the imagination.

I kinda feel the same as a lot here TBH. I mained SCH since pre HW and it just feels...really bad now.. I didn't play it because it was "lulz ez mode", I played it because it was very involved, always having something to do. I liked the fairy/shield/dps healer and wanted to push it and myself as far as I could go. In HW, they added some stuff that was kinda 'meh, felt a bit clunky, but I still used it. Now in SB, it seems they just completely added new clunk and magnified the clunkiness that was there in HW.

They did say they weren't gonna go all out on SCH/WAR in SB cuz it was so good in HW, but jesus did they drop the ball. I leveled AST and WHM to 70, and while I already did enjoy AST (not so much WHM), they added so much and made these two others feel so complete and fun to play, that I now feel like I want to main WHM, if not AST. I always love SCH, but they've butchered its playstyle and image, and tried to very clumsily move it over towards a "normal" and generic healer image than what it was.

SCH still feels like SCH to me. It was really rough to adjust in 4.0 but I managed to overcome its nerf bat and had no issues after the first few days. 4.05 made it feel back to normal, even though the dps aspect is still lackluster, I'm actually better at mp management and clutch healing than before.

Once you know all the mechanic patterns, sch is back to its old self. Shield / excog mitigation and clutch single target heals is pretty spectacular imo. If anything, it's forcing me to use abilities I could get away with not using before and I'm really enjoying it.

I get why some SMN might feel this way, but you have to realize that you have several forms of AoE besides Bane. SCH had nothing besides it. Granted your AoEs are all gated, but you still have several varieties.

SCH burst healing is great for large pulls. I always adlo+excog before each pull, use that time to throw out DoTs, then between rousing Eos and Physick we end up overhealing. Once I build the guage up (and I know what pull's coming) I use Fey Union and power through the damage, popping Largesse when needed and using Whispering Dawn and Fey Illumination once the guage has been used up. So long as dps is decent most things should be dead before Fey Union ends, ideally.

Certainly, WHM may get the job done a bit easier and without so many buttons but the consistent opportunities a SCH can give themselves to contribute dps and fix people's mistakes is pretty amazing. Our emergency buttons aren't quite as potent but come at much less a cost.
(oddly) If a WHM uses tetra to save a dps that got hit then their only other option is bene if the tank gets hit hard and then both are on cd when they could have been needed later. If a SCH uses lustrate to save a dps they expend an aetherflow that is now coming back quicker for using that lustrate anyway, plus the mp that comes back with using aetherflow. WHM loses their emergency buttons upon use, but SCH only benefit from using theirs. Not that a WHM should ever waste tetra on a dps as a simple regen or cure should be enough, but you get the idea. The mindsets between a SCH and WHM emergency buttons are pretty clear.

You're forgetting about Shadow Flare, but I get what you are trying to say. We don't have an AOE damage spell that we can spam like WHM's Holy.
