How I understand it SE is planning to make Beastmaster and Summoner a Class/Job Duo. Which one is the class and which one is the job is still unclear.
I would say Beastmaster as class for solo and Summoner as job for full party raids.

    edit: found it
Like one idea could be for example maybe having a beast tamer class and that job would be like a summoner type of job.

This makes the most sense- taking the advantages of each.

Regardless of how to use pets, what will lock the job in as a strong(or at least viable) class will be its ability to participate in endgame. This should be done with durable pets and a variety of pet weapon skills.

XI's TP system I felt was detrimental to BST's party play with slower TP builing and a 2min Sic timer. However, with XIV's quicker TP system, the pet would be capable of much quicker actions, which could lend itself toward a stronger attacking, or even a supporting role (imagining a pet capable of something like Healing Breeze more often then 2min).

Why not allow them to do both? Is that unbalanced?

I think allowing the BST to "keep" a pet and level it up is a good idea, but they should also be able to charm monsters in the wild to use.

    Why not?

Please we dont need "WoW's hunter class"

Whats wrong with Bst being a solo MONSTER?

BST in FFXI was awesome anything less would be fail in the Eyes of almost every true Bst out there.

If they are going to do BST as the class and SMN as the job I think doing the FFXI type of BST acceptable. Then you have solo awesomeness with BST and party awesomeness with SMN.

But if they decide otherwise I wouldn't mind seeing Pankration make a comeback modified for BST only though. For those that don't know what Pankration was, you would go out with a soul capture device and essential capture a copy of monster's souls that you could either turn into either monsters to fight in the arena for you or use the plates as ways to boost a monster you have already with new traits/ abilities. TL;DR: pokemon for ffxi.

And how it could be modified is with this similar system you level up a few chosen pets customized to your play style by taming pets and impressions of other monsters moves to teach your own pet. Or something like that lol.

Edit: Had another thought; would be cool if beastmaster could sell their pets to other people lol and make a new market for our economy.

    I disagree with that combo..

I believe Evoker should be the class able to summon elemental spirits to fight while Summoner being the job able to do this and bring forth the primals.

As for BST I feel Shepard (name not decided) should be the class able to charm mobs and such while Beastmaster being able to charm mobs aswell and also keep x amount of pets indefinately through the XI's jug pet system just further advanced or by taking WoW's pet stabling design and improving on that.

From a solo persepective, I absolutely loathed soloing BST in XI. It was dull and very slow to me. However, using it as a subjob, it became very interesting and fun with the implication of every available main job. Especially Ninja (Innin). I actually rolled a new character just to play BLM/BST, BRD/BST, WHM/BST - anything and all except DRG, SMN and PUP for obvious reasons. I had much fun in my final days playing FFXI.. solo.

As for parties, I once made a Lesser Colibri party of RDM BRD BST BST PUP PUP. Great times.

Sorry, already confirmed that Primal summon would be a free company thing, not a SMN only thing.

I never got the charm system in ffxi. One minute the monster is willing to follow your every command, even die for you without hesitation, and the next minute it hates you and wants to kill you. Arent they supposed to be beast"masters"?
