I personally would prefer a constant tame.. that never wears off.

maybe that you have to level your pets.. dont know. but they should be able to recast the pet everywhere.. maybe you can just have of, lets say 5-7 beasts and if you want to have a new one. you have to change the one with the other.

i would like if the beastmaster also is able to fight with the pet alongside the battle... so that he would get more useful in party's.

i would never like a version like that was in FFXI. the job itself was the most unbalanced and sensless job in FFXI ever.

well as a bst you send one mob of almost the same strength against the same mob type of almost the same strength too.. that took mostly really long time..

i dont get the sens of kind of "battles" like this. and the beastmaster mostly standed behind and watched the whole "battle" i dont get the sense.

never saw a taming class like this before.. i mean in Dark Age Of Camelot for example you had a barde or sorceress which almost had that kind of tame ... but you attacked also with your character itself.. not just "sending one mob against almost the same one". apart from that that this reeally took long time

This makes the most sense- taking the advantages of each.

Regardless of how to use pets, what will lock the job in as a strong(or at least viable) class will be its ability to participate in endgame. This should be done with durable pets and a variety of pet weapon skills.

XI's TP system I felt was detrimental to BST's party play with slower TP builing and a 2min Sic timer. However, with XIV's quicker TP system, the pet would be capable of much quicker actions, which could lend itself toward a stronger attacking, or even a supporting role (imagining a pet capable of something like Healing Breeze more often then 2min).

From a solo persepective, I absolutely loathed soloing BST in XI. It was dull and very slow to me. However, using it as a subjob, it became very interesting and fun with the implication of every available main job. Especially Ninja (Innin). I actually rolled a new character just to play BLM/BST, BRD/BST, WHM/BST - anything and all except DRG, SMN and PUP for obvious reasons. I had much fun in my final days playing FFXI.. solo.

As for parties, I once made a Lesser Colibri party of RDM BRD BST BST PUP PUP. Great times.

I like the idea! Can my tamed monsters live in Pokeballs though?

Endgame content was not the same for bst as they would do other things such as solo nm's and other things. I certainly didn't want to be a bst, to be in a party, though all bst parties were very fun to me. I always had tons of gil as I got all drops. It was definitely a unique aspect I have never seen in any game since. It was difficult to master and most people I know that tried bst did not like it at all. Most people I know did like the WoW hunter, so maybe I am in the minority.

Since Yoshi mentioned one of the pet system ideas that was in the works was in fact the "disposable pet" system for beastmasters, I was really, really disappointed. I know many FF players scoff at the mention of WoW but their pet system was more satisfying to play with and I'd rather see this system implemented in it's own way in FFXIV. I could care less about whether or not the class is solo/party friendly. Classes are supposed to be geared towards solo play anyway, with jobs being favored in groups. One of Yoshida's ideas was to have a beast-tamer as a class and having summoner as the job it could unlock, so I don't think beastmasters will be left out of either solo or group play.

Love everything in this post, I'd love a menagerie of pets to manage as opposed to charming animals that will leave or die. BST > SMN also makes sense because they are both pet classes but at the same time lore wise it would make more sense if it was CON > SMN, but that's not going to happen now...

I agree that if the advanced class of BST is group centric then that fixes the problem of them not being included in groups at end game.

I'm playing a conjurer now but I'm really a beastmaster/tamer at heart. Hopefully it's the class we get to level and not a job.

YES PLEASE! This is the perfect system. Think about it! Monster Farm.
    Capture/Charm Monsters BST Poach RNG/THF
Level Up those monsters by using monster related jobs such as leveling morpher, BLU spell casting, or using as your pet as a BST
    Collect their produce
Use them for Morpher/Blue Mage Learning Grounds
Guild Halls for a new type of NM like trophynm or rarenm
Could also be attached to a chocobo circuit

I jumped the gun a little, but i like the idea alot. ;P

Or make BST a class and SMN its adv job, that way you can happily solo as BST and when in a party setting simply switch to SMN.
Shouldn't that make everyone happy, retaining all the solo fun of BST while added party support/specialication with its SMN.
