Actually, this wouldn't work through Steam. Valve has a very tight security when it comes to region locks and they're always updating their policies over that (sometimes to a very restrictive degree, such as banning game gifting from Brazil almost entirely).

Also, I'd look at this from a different perspective: in a hypothetical Russian website, how many people are using it? How much are they paying? Would they be paying for the original price in the first place? If the price was lowered globally, how much would it increase the sales volume? Would it increase profits?

See what I mean? Tackling the problem by offering a better service, not making it worse.

Region lock on steam was implemented long time ago and you cannot gift a subscription.

We could not only post a negative review on Steam, but also a negative review on metacritic i think it'll attract more attention and they have a good score in there!

He's probably talking about gifting items through Mogstation and only using Steam to pay for the item.

But like I mentioned in a different post, this issue would probably be better tackled by analysing the sales data, comparing it with the global numbers and revising the prices accordingly (and also trying to tackle the site directly). This would make Square's service more attractive, instead of having to undermine lots of innocent players.

Ah I see - I refuse to use Steam for anything (I had it installed for 5 min years ago - removed and never installed again) so didn't realize they had it locked down better than individual publishers - makes sense.

And the Steam Reviews for FFXIV are officially down from Mostly Positive to Mixed. And the score keeps dropping.

That's not how purchasing power works. In other countries, we earn our local currency, NOT USD. Different minimum wages too. Imagine if you had to pay almost 50 bucks a month to play. I remember I could never get to play subscription based games when I was younger, because I grew up in Malaysia, and 15 USD translated to RM60. We don't get paid in USD! We get paid in Ringgit! Which means we have to put in substantially much more work to pay for these translated prices, which for a lot of us meant not playing it at all.

It's so easy for people to say this stuff when they get to live in the country that these prices are based around!

I hope SE changes her mind about that. I've played this game for almost 2 years now, and I really wouldn't like to stop playing because of this. I had plans for Omega Savage, and so did my static, but we cannot continue our plans with this... unexpected turn of events.

If we manage to get enough attention on the matter, we might be able to change this. Until then, I won't pay. And if they do not change their minds, I won't return either. They should've at the very least warned us beforehand, like it is stated on the ToS. It is our right.
What really hurt me is... Not only I had these plans, but my younger sister was interested on the game and even started her free trial. And now she won't be able explore the game. SE is losing veterans AND potential players with such change.

I already contributed with a negative review on Steam. Let's hope this helps out.

It's not only income. What matters is a part of monthy income which player can spent on entertaiment.
I have only 2% after all that bills and loans, so if new prices is correct - the game (subscription + retainers) become too expencive for me.
