I'm with you 100% BUT if they made Beastmaster not only tame the pet but ride them into battle, I'd be ok with this system as well.I'm getting kind of flabbergasted seeing all of the "This should only be for Beastmaster" posts. I dun get it - so you want the little "Hey, thanks for having faith in us." reward for staying through the Seventh Umbral Era to 2.0 to be something only one job that we don't have can use? Or that maybe they can reward us with a L50 BST? Or are you saying that you reject their offer and would prefer something else?
I, for one, think it's a profound gesture to break that chocobo tradition for a very small community and say, "In 5 years, when many players have come and gone, and the game is stable and all of this is so far behind us it is barely remembered, you - survivor of the calamity - will retain a mark left on the world. You will have learned to tame the un-tame-able."
This wouldn't be the first time a Final Fantasy characters power was exhibited through a powerful non-chocobo mount.
Literally the only thing that could make this a bad idea in the long term is if the community who DIDN'T STAY, who DIDN'T INVEST, who said it WASN'T WORTH IT decided that they wanted it too and bitched and bitched and SE said something OTHER than, "STFU, you didn't earn it. Learn to deal."
That's the main thing that bugs me about the BST argument. I don't think the people making that point read the interview where Yoshida laid out his ideas for BST - he basically said that he'd like to see a greater BOND between the BST and his pet - that he might even be considering a singular pet from beginning to end that you develop and expand. The BST in XIV will probably be quite different than that from XI -- and, if so, I wouldn't be surprised if THAT PET would be mountable, as well, which would already give BST a unique mount.
