Sorry for the slow replies some great opinions here. And as far as the netflix healer i can get that at this point toto rak is pretty boring. I mean honestly I was reading a post on glamours in a 50 dungeon the other day, but usually I do try to dps so that i can move things along. haha

I'm on the stance that it shouldn't be mandatory, but is greatly appreciated. Outside of savage content anyways. When I play healer (just started recently since i'm shooting for the goddess of magic title) I try to deal damage whenever I can.

It's actually not mandatory, just something extra you can do. It's like a nice cake and then you add the topping to the cake. I dps when I can, but I don't yell at another healer for not dpsing.

I know, but a lot of people who blindly follow meta complain and treat it as mandatory even to the point of harassing others. Even in something like 4-man content DF which is ridiculous.
also I love your sig. RWBY is one of my top favs.

Honestly never give a person flak unless theyre trying to dps and failing horribly at healing/tanking. Idk what the big deal is, its sort of like, how do these people, without parsers, even know how much dps a healer/tank is doing to begin with? Also why is it something theyre watching for, when theres plenty to concentrate on already
Hey, I remembered your name! You're that guy who gets annoyed at getting shirked

People who don't contribute to the best of their class' ability are definitionally sub-par. There are extremely few cases where every gcd is filled with healing; thus doing nothing in those gcds is sub-par.

Ignoring the fact for a moment that a huge portion of people absolutely do use parsers, you don't need one to know that someone who fills empty gcds with damage is doing more for the party than someone who doesn't. They teach you that 1 > 0 in about grade 2.

I don't get pissy at healers who don't dps but I definitely judge them silently, as I'm sure does anyone who doesn't suck at their own job. In the same way, I roll my eyes at bards that don't use foe requiem and refresh and other utility, dps who don't use defensive abilities or get out of appropriate aoes, and tanks who don't use defensive abilities, offensive abilities, and even healing where appropriate. Use the tools you have available to make the group as efficient as possible. Failing to use dps tools where appropriate means you definitionally not doing this, no matter how you define a job or role.

DPSing as healer is about feeling confident with the fight, here is my own example:
First time healing Susano EX: 200/300 DPS
Now Healing Susano Ex: 900-1.1k DPS

If a healer isn't DPSing and I notice they have time to, I don't give them a comm and instantly brand them, in my mind, as a trash healer. You have spells for a reason. Cleric Stance is more or less gone. You've run out of excuses to be lazy. If you want to aspire to be a bad healer, then great job. You're doing really well.

This. DPSing as a healer when you are able to do that (have time and resources that don't need to be spent on your party's immediate survival) is mandatory just like using songs as BRD and DPS rotation and stance as tank is mandatory for fulfilling the minimum requirements for your job. However, when you're just learning your job, it's ok to focus on healing and gradually increase DPS (just like it's ok to full time tank stance / enmity rotation and forget to keep songs up as a BRD when you're learning your DPS rotation).

I like to dps as healer when able. However, lately my dps time has been almost non existent with the tanks I've been getting in the duty finder. It has felt like they think my every gcd should be on them and refuse to move out of stuff use stuns, or cooldowns. Rather irritating. Really like the scholar play style but I hate the recent upsurge in tanks who feel the healer is their personal pocket heals.

Edit to be fair there are a good many dps lately that just get hit too because of their deeps will suffer if they move.

    This is...

Bard songs work COMPLETELY differently now, and are in no way comparable to DPSing as a healer.

    I am 100% pro-healer DPS but please.
