Regarding racial/gender/name changes for 2.0

Showin' my support for this. I'm all for freedom, allowing people to change their race/gender/name is, in my opinion, the way to go.

I like idea of all this, because if you couldnt change gender, how would you become a male miqote or female highlander? makes no sense to not be able to if these are to be released in v2.

That's what I assumed, but in the latest interviews, they have been getting touchy on the subject, going; "Mmmh.. we're not sure if we should let you do it. Please discuss this futher."

Didn't he say at first we'd get the option to change with 2.0?
I kind of understand why he might be against name changes, (people getting angry because they can't find their friends anymore, bad people changing their name to not get recognized anymore,etc.) but at least everything else would be just fair.
Players shouldn't get penalized for playing this game prior to 2.0!

Personally, I don't want to change to a new race/gender, but I hate the looks of my character so much, everyday I'm just waiting desperately for the costumize option..even if I have to pay for it (not 30€ or something though)

Giving us new graphics, new genders and new races without an option to change really sucks.

Name changes I'm all for.

What I am not for is this business about shortening them.

Now, shortening might work, but one of the things I happen to love about Final Fantasy XIV is the fact that by virtue of the forename/surname system, people don't have to bicker over getting particular names. At least, not nearly so much.

It is so, so wonderful being able to have the name I want to have. Do you realise how hard it is to secure the name Hana in most MMO's? Beside Forra she's one of my most important characters and it's horrid having to faff about with her name.

And that aside, there's something really, really nice about being in a world where there's a chance of meeting someone with a similar name to your own.

So yes. Yes to name changes, but for goodness' sake please protect the advantages of the forename/surname system in allowing it. Shortening sounds worryingly like it might impinge on that.

Dear SE, restrict the length of forename/surname if u want, but plzzz dont eliminate the surname.

If they plan to add new races do they expect us to start over? I think allowing us to change race/gender and name would be really nice. I don't think they should say they will and then change their minds half way through. Not cool.

As long as i can see who the player was before names wise.. Sure.

An I wouldn't want to see people lose the name they have cos someone else took it as they weren't playing or anything like that.

Dear Yoshi-P,
Yes please allow an option to change names when the option to change your race/gender is added. While I don't plan on changing my name, I am a firm believer that people should have this one time option to make it so their character's whole presence fits them.

I am not worried about losing track of friends, we'll find a way to let each other know if we want to be found.

As far as limiting how many characters are in a name, it might not be a bad idea from this point on. If there is a way to "grandfather-in" the option for people with existing long names to just continue with what they had, and only place a limit on new names being created, this would seem reasonable.

If you do agree to allow name changes, I only ask that you please just let us know beforehand what any name character limits would be. Mostly so that players can plan and not end up with an awkward name because part of it had been cut off. Also, please don't get rid of surnames.. I actually rather like having a full name.
