Or alternately, and something that i would personally find hilarious. A week or so before the jump to 2.0 a event happens where every body's races and genders get randomly swapped.

With version 2,0 I would love to change my name and avatar as well. Because new options with character creation will be avaible I would love to adjust my character avatar, gender again because I missed these features in non 2.0. Name change might be nice too, if I decide to play newly added gender.

I think SE should make this optional event, whe-ever players wanna change their gender/race
+ name with keeping their character's stats and gear... etc. So if we have this option avaible 1x for every character, it would be great.

After you have done change, you may not repeat it again. That might be fair.

I'm firmly against allowing name changes, but I'm a staunch supporter of allowing people to change race/gender.

Simple rationale: your name is what you're known by. If name changes are allowed, when 2.0 launches, you won't know anybody anymore. That's bad.

Why would I play cat-male with Mina Rose name on that avatar, isnt it weird ? Well, I think name change should be allowed as well in the case.

Now, shortening might work, but one of the things I happen to love about Final Fantasy XIV is the fact that by virtue of the forename/surname system, people don't have to bicker over getting particular names. At least, not early so much.

It is so, so wonderful being able to have the name I want to have. Do you realise how hard it is to secure the name Hana in most MMO's? Beside Forra she's one of my most important characters and it's horrid having to faff about with her name.

And that aside, there's something really, really nice about being in a world where there's a chance of meeting someone with a similar name to your own.

So yes. Yes to name changes, but for goodness' sake please protect the advantages of the forename/surname system in allowing it. Shortening sounds worryingly like it might impinge on that.

This says it for me. There are many reasons why someone might want to change their name if they are changing characters, so I'm ok with that on a one-time basis.

But I don't understand why there's any need to shorten them. If this has to do with typing in a person's name, then there should be countermeasures in the new engine for this. In WoW (scuse the forbidden reference), you only had to click on a person's name in the chat box to bring up whispering(tell) to him. It would be nice to have functions like that.

Being able to change our race/gender is a great idea! I have been wanting to play a male cat person since the start of FFxi years ago.

I'm not 100% sure if I will change my race or not but I'm fully supporting the option to make such changes when 2.0 hits.

As for name changes? I would never change my name. But I know there are many people who would want to make this change. So I also fully support name changes as well.

Edit: P.S. I also agree that shorting names is BAD IDEA! The above post says it best, please don't shorten names and keep the given name/ sir name. It's really a great system.
