It matches the type of collars they had in olden times (think 17th century)

Not EVERYTHING has to be a carbon copy of each other. Both models are stylish and should be appreciated as they were designed.
It looks like some people just want straight up cross dressing, which is never going to happen, ever. i'm all for more options for male characters, so long as it's there own look, don't really need to be wearing the exact same outfits females wear, there is a reason they are designed differently.

I'd prefer all characters receive the same clothing options for better or ill, especially as some of the gender locked outfits look clearly better for one gender as opposed to the other. The Garo sets immediately spring to mind as I absolutely adored every single male outfit but despised the ones made for females with the exception of the MCH/BRD coat.

Then why do we have the option to cross dress, male and female alike? Their ruleset is largely inconsistent which is why this entire ordeal is frustrating. I't would have been understandable that female can't wear outfits with bare chests, but everything else is just redundant.

Oh look, it's this thread again...

    No.
If anything we need more gender, race and job, heck, even tribe locked gear. Stop trying to ruin what little gender/race/ect identity is left in this game out of stupid reasons that boil down to "but it's current year and stuff!"

There is absolut zero reason to have restricted gear as long as all the playable races got the same physique. Even if an armor were to display an unique tail for Miqote or Aura

First things first, please stop flooding the forum with threads that you've already made in the past, OP. Either post in those on the subject that you've already made or post in one of the many large threads that already deal with the subject in question.

Secondly...I have to say that I do not want to see everything made available to everybody. There's nothing wrong with designing and limiting gear for either men or women. Especially when it allows the developers to design the gear to fit and flatter the gender model very well. If it's designed to fit both genders then it doesn't necessarily look as good...or it just ends up looking overly feminine as is the case with a lot of BRD and healer gear.

The AST set being specifically different for male and female characters is pretty great - and a major step in the right direction. If you're really desperate to embrace your character's femininity, consider making use of a fantasia and playing a female character. Judging by your past posts, I feel like you may be happier for it.

The devs would never create two different unisex versions of the same high level armor. Don't be stupid. They will either make different versions for both sexes or only one unisex version. I don't want the latter because it's less variation (one is less than two). The latter is also less likely to be aesthetically pleasing to me, because unisex includes both masculine and feminine styles. Just look at the new Stormblood hairstyles which are unisex and only look great on guys. I wanted a female version then and I will want it in the future as well.

I don't mind having one piece of gear that looks different depending on the gender. After all, boys wears pants and girls wears skirts, right?

But when you allow one gender to have both options, the other gender should be allowed to the same privilege. There are some gear that's exclusive to females while the male version can be wear for the two genders. This is unfair. You either make the male version exclusive or allow males to wear the female version.
