This was never about elitism. It was about player efforts. SE nerfed it accordingly. You can argue for the impacts it has on the PvP scene but SE still decided on it because they saw how players used it.
No, this is not going to change any kind of behaviour but at least it might remove some players from doing PvP solely for the EXP. It's clear that the vocal minority on Reddit and on the OF are going to quit it. Good to know though is that the majority of players are not here or on Reddit. The nerf isn't going to punish anyone who wants to try PvP anyway and if they don't like it, they won't queue it.

Played some feast today and xp is 263k if you win and 87k if you lose in lvl 61. Average xp is almost same than before if you win 50% of games now. If you win more xp is better than before.

Exp reward should -imo- be loosely % based according to how close/far from victory, how long in match you participated and a threshold of minimum performance.

I see there are similar suggestions; this is just my 3 cents.

% based: Either a flat percentage penalty based on how far your team was from winning (f.ex. 50% penalty for getting 800/1600pts in shatter), or make it tier based on min/max score (f.ex. high penalty if under 1000pts in shatter; some penalty if between 1000-1500pts; no penalty if over 1500pts in).

Participation time: Did SE implement this? Basically if you join in progress and immediately win there should be at least some reduction. That being said, it would be nice to have some incentive for joining in progress.

Threshold of minimum performance: Depending on role there should be some sort of check if you actually did anything (anti AFK/BOT). For example: DPS should at least deal 30,000 damage total in shatter to get over the threshold. If not: NO EXP FOR YOU!

(All these numbers are fairly arbitrary)

I mean this with all the love in my heart: you are naive if you think modulating the rewards will in any way stop AFKers and botters as long as the risks are so minor. As long as there's any reward whatsoever, people will do it. Removing all rewards from last place won't stop that, either, because there'll still be a trickle of a chance that they land in second or better. They aren't 'wasting their time' because it's not their time to begin with - the point isn't to be most efficient, it's to get something for nothing.

Until real change is implemented with regards to kick timers and punishment structures, they're not going to go anywhere. Changing the reward structure is just window dressing that doesn't solve the major problems and instead makes it a less attractive option to active players.

You can put in all the effort in the world, but if you've got a few less-than-skilled players on your team, or you run into an insanely good premade, you get less XP plain and simple, REGARDLESS how much effort you do, or do not put in.

All this is going to cause, is for the first third of the match or so, when the losses are too great or the other team(s) seem too good to ever beat, some players will go "welp I'm getting nerfed XP anyways, might as well just sit at base and let them win faster." whereas before, you didn't have this defeatist motivation as much, other than the people who wanted to AFK in the first place.

Until 4.0, even the winners didn't get XP. We still played to win though.

Only issue is that they made that broken reward structure in the first place so ofc peoples will whine now that it got fixed, everyone getting gold medal no matter what was retarded right from the beginning.

Yeah, those 3 players used to have a lot of fun back then.

SE should make the exp like they would in fates, you have to hit x amount of damage or healing to get the max amount of exp.

What's wrong with doing PVP solely for the XP? As long as you participate, it shouldn't matter why you're there.

There's nothing broken about the rewards structure. The XP isn't amazing. It was just a continuation of Palace of the Dead's scaling. It'd be like changing Palace or the next deep dungeon so that every group in there has to rush to clear it first or they get reduced XP if they aren't the first or changing fates so that only the person or group who contributes the most to the fate gets gold. How is that any fun? Given the large size of the BGs, it's already really frustrating to lose because your personal contributions are negligible, so you're basically just praying to RNGesus that your team isn't utterly incompetent. Nerfing the XP just made t feel even worse. Case in point: I was extremely frustrated after going 0-7 a couple of nights ago, so much so that I quit my beloved Twin Adders and joined the Maelstrom, who seems to win the most often. What was the result? Well it wasn't just me being bitter or random luck. I had a <20% win rate before and since joining Maelstrom and nearly doubling my matches played, I've won abut 40% of my games. When I don't win, I am virtually always in second and often a very close second. The difference between Maelstrom and the other two GCs is night and day and generally speaking the people on the team are better organized, do more productive things, and spend a lot less time aimlessly wandering about the map. I also generally see better comps on the teams, often including as many as 10 healers and some tanks, which really helps us in those larger team fights.
