One *personal* house per account, per server, with alt characters on the server having access. Free Company Masters need a specific exception to allow them to own one FC house and one *Personal* house - per account, per server..

That is absolutely disgusting. There is zero reason anyone should need or be able to buy any more than one personal house per server. And SE really needs to put limits on that, soon. These guys are just an example, there are others that buy up property en masse like that to gain a monopoly on house sales, something that fills me with dread thinking about the second Shirogane opens up.
In their case I see it as less 'we want to live in quiet' and more 'look how much more money we have than you, lolol'. It's pretty clear to me they're only doing it to anger people, and they definitely succeeded.

There's no point at getting mad at people who own multiple houses.

The housing system needs to be fixed. One personal house/one FC house, per server, per account.

If Square Enix can't open enough wards to accommodate the majority of their active players, they should make housing instanced. Especially since the neighbourhoods are mostly empty anyway.

If Square Enix can't or won't make housing instanced in light of this, then I'd honestly prefer that they just remove housing entirely. There's no point to a gameplay feature that 90% of the playerbase can't access.

And just because I know someone's going to bring up the asinine argument, Savage raiding is not "a gameplay feature that 90% of the playerbase can't access". They're not the same thing.

Can't really deny or sugarcoat that those two players are ultimately rather selfish and entitled, the soapbox stance of theirs was really eye-rolling, I mean fair play to them, the plots had been empty for years but even so its still selfish in the grand scheme of things as really we all shouldn't really be owning so many homes but such is the current system, but at the same time SEs still at fault for allowing such an easily abused system in the first place. If they just admitted they screwed up when they made housing and and started plans to actually fix it, we wouldn't have any problems at all.

Literally all they had to do was make it one house per server + FC house if you happened to be a leader of one, let your alts access your house and reset the timer since after all, you're still the same account.

This would help the situation a lot IMHO. I know it means someone actually working with players to do it, but I think that SE needs to go to players with more than one personal house and have them nominate which one they want to keep. I'm sure that some compensation would need to be agreed. but afterwards, SE could implement the one house per server, per account change. And if players refuse to cooperate, declare eminent domain and pick for them.

Compensation in the form of give them the full cost of the house and plot back and save their furniture so that it can be reclaimed anytime within the next X amount of days or something. I mean that'd be fair wouldn't it?

Really, this is what needs to happen. Give people a large advance notice, like two or three months, to let whatever houses they don't want auto-demo. Then if the timer runs out and they aren't in compliance with the limit, just strip everything except for the first personal house and first FC house they bought. Send them back all their gil for plots/permits and give them a nice long timer on furniture storage so they can figure out what to do with it all. That's the only way I see it be fair for everyone.

Those plots were added in June of 2016 and according to the post by the users that purchased them, they began their collection of houses in September. So about 3-ish months since ward 12 even existed they started in on buying up plots.

I don't understand what you mean? There is nothing wrong with owning multiple houses is there? I mean SE lets people flip houses for 100s of millions of gil. That's a huge incentive to buy up land and resell. Fastest way to get rich in the game.

Paying more then the original plot price plus the building permit, unless they just give it too you. I can't understand why anyone would waste money like that. FC maybe, but a player...
