So I have asked them this question on the liveletter thread (page 54). Would be nice to get some likes so that they might see it and get to know the problem.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

So what happens if a character (who owns a home) tries to purchase another one?
Tbh I am sort of glad these guys bought 28 houses on their own server. It's wrong yes, but it speaks very loud and draws the necessary attention to this problem that it lacked previously. Sometimes you need a necessary evil to push the envelope, and I think these guys did it, for better or worse.

I have been trying for a long time now and do not even have 1
Still the system is largely to blame because they have not went with instanced housing like other mmos
When the new district opens up in SB i am taking a day as holiday damnit, lol
I have one personal house small and one medium house for my FC mates and I, aiming for a Mansion once Shirogane drops.
The speculation some people say that "housing wards that are coming will be a solution for those suffering" no - no they won't. I know that the two top d-bags on Excalibur are already poising themselves to buy new plots and have their level 50 alts all buy back the old plots that get released after the transfer. What sucks is that unless Square Enix decides to actually act on a solution to prevent these people from doing it, a lot of us are going to get royally screwed by this. Really need to push S-E to either find a solution before 4.1, presumably when the new wards drop, or hold back from releasing them until something is done to rectify this and to prevent housing going to more undeserving, greedy hoarders.

I never said housing was boring, why would I have so many houses if I found it boring?
And hey if they DIDN'T MAKE CONTENT to PLAY, we wouldn't have a game? Why SHOULD the devs stop working on raids and pvp (lol) to work on housing because people are literally not wanting to take the time to get a house?
You've got to consider the exact moment of time the player logged out and went afk for 45 day, on the hour. So, the house will be available exactly 45 days after they have logged out. Keep in mind maintenance times as well. And lesse here, people who are too busy 'adulting' to log in to keep their house from exploding? They will have logged out around ..maybe just after prime time, or during prime time. And since I have been at this for literal years, I can tell you I've seen more empty plots pop up around these perfectly accessible times, than during 2am+ hours. You can't be at every city crystal at once, however. So I heavily suggest in investing in some friends to help. Maybe some friends who are at home while you're at work too? Gee, it's almost like MMOs expect you to chat up other folks.
I've definitely never said the housing system is fair, either. I would ADORE instanced housing. I feel if you have the gil, you should have the house. But since that isn't the case, you HAVE TO put in extra effort. If you want it, you HAVE TO do it this way. Unless you want to pay a flipper, which I advise against.

I was wondering why you were so adamant about defending people who own dozens of homes, now I know why.
Hey, I just got my house on Balmung. I had the gil to buy it for months. You know how I got it? Luck. You know how you got yours? Luck. It wasn't hard work. Sitting at a crystal clicking over and over isn't hard work. lmao.
If we're talking about the houses on Mateus they aren't all furnished. How is this okay but two people buying and furnishing 28 plots on a recently dead server is suddenly crime of the century?
Also let me add a housing hello from Aegis too

I never said I got mine with luck though. And idk, 3 aint that many. I know people with more, but they aren't so glaringly obvious about it and I really don't blame them for that.I was wondering why you were so adamant about defending people who own dozens of homes, now I know why.

You said you got yours with hard work, and that's simply not true, or no more true than anybody else trying to get a house. Plenty of people have worked hard, very hard, on Balmung to get the gil. Almost everyone I know that's looking for a house has the gil. They already put in the work. But they weren't lucky enough to be there when a plot was relinquished. How does that make them lazy about getting a house?
I'm sick of hearing about it. "You didn't work hard enough to get your house!" That's not the reality of it. The reality is that they simply weren't there at the right time. New wards got added and they couldn't get through the queue or got 90kd. The latest house to get relinquished got put up while they were at work, school, or asleep. You can't just say it was all hard work, because that is not the case on our server.
Oh, and you absolutely should feel guilty for owning 3 houses on a full server where housing is in high demand.
