As it stands, a large number of people only have things to lose by transferring. Just logically speaking.
Obviously, not all pro-cons are created equal and different incentives have different weights to different people, but simple logic dictates that if people feel that the cons outweigh the pros of transferring, then they're not going to transfer.
Pros:
-Less queue time and less congestion
-More available housing, if you don't already own a house.
-Smaller economy, more easily controlled
-Added incentives like the gold chocobo feathers
-You can still do PvE and PvP content with friends via cross-world partyfinder.
Cons:
-No FC transfers (yet), so you lose your airships and FC rank.
-If you already own a house, there's no guarantee you'll be able to get the same house if you transfer. For example, the Mist on Mateus is completely filled up already.
-Smaller economy, makes it harder to buy things you don't want to get yourself
-If your friends/FC don't come with you, you can't do world content like FATEs and Hunts. In general, playing on separate servers makes it harder to socialise in-game.
-If you roleplay, you have far less connections and less opportunities.
Basically, the main incentive to transfer is the queue times, but as is easily demonstrated, queue times are hilariously easy to circumvent by staying logged in via Retainer Bell or Crafting. While the occasional 90k-into-3-hour-queue does happen, it clearly doesn't happen often enough to cause people to transfer.
The only reason to transfer is if you can't afford to stay logged-in to circumvent the kick for whatever reason. There's just not enough incentive.
Again, what you stand to lose by transferring means absolutely nothing. If you have stuff you don't want to lose then you're just stuck dealing with the queue issues.
You want a large economy? Then you get to deal with the queue times, period. There are like what, 30 other servers that have small economies and the market boards do just fine.
You can't do fates and hunts if you don't have friends / an FC? what? 3 days after Omega opened I was in 3 128/128 capped hunt linkshells. Hunts and FATES are easy to get into. You're not so socially inept that you can't join a new free company and make new friends.
Roleplaying isn't supported by SE. If you want people to roleplay with that's on you to figure out.
I was on Fabul in 2010, even though we were both merged into Balmung. Yes, years on a server don't matter much nowadays. I doubt it would even hold weight if SE decided to force transfer players if it got to that point.
