Doesnt that seem a bit too artificial and contrived?

I dont mean to make this thread into an immersion debate, but it's kind of ironic that the reason they are implementing these weapons is to instill a sense of FF-ness (in other words they are trying to aid in the immersiveness of the FF game) but at the same time it detracts from the sensibility of the world because the concept doesnt even begin to make any kind of sense.

Dont you think?

Call me old fashioned but I think they should just stick to letting us craft stuff and slot materia into it.

The way SE intend to add this apply-for-weapon feature just seems like they're making these so-called legendary weapons into an official .dat mod. Sounds a bit lame to me.

I see where they are coming from with this feature (they want to keep these good weapons from becoming outdated), but still. . .
I think you are looking at it too literally, i dont think he means apply like oh i apply for an exacilbur, but more like Excalibur is a legendary skin applicable to the best weapon out right now.

I see it like...

Get the best endgame weapon with X materia.
your sword begins to speak you/glow wahtever, seek the great spirit of jimmy he holds the power of excalibur. You go speak to spirit of jimmy, defeat something or do some event/quest, and now you sword gains the aspect of the spirit sword exaclibure, base stats are boosted and it gets some additional effect, but its still your materiad sword other than that.

1 year later when some new crazy stuff is released, the spirit fades from your sword, and the spirit of excalibur only resides in the new whatever, with some new event linked to bonding it to your weapon.

That is the way i understood what he was saying anyhow.

the biggest issue is people will be mad because they never truely own excalibur. but ehh, this was an idea for the legendary items of teh FF franchise like the genji glove or atma weapon, it makes sense that you can only have it when you reach the pinnacle, and continually have to reach the pinnacle to have access to it.
