Blue Mage should be a tank.
Also with sprint reworked I'm open to a TP based healer. DNC maybe?

I think I just want a job that deals with not shitty, pure-blood Garleans.
A magitek knight tank job would be super bad-ass, but the best possible explanation for a non-magic healer in a world where basic conjury is learned by even the lowest common denominator would be the healing craft built by the one race that couldn't use magic at all.
That just so happens to be the Garleans. They'd have to have had doctors within their pre-magitek society somewhere.
Plus, they could spin the story in so many ways. Maybe a loyalist is delighted to educate soldiers in older military techniques for historical sake. Maybe it's a defector like Cid or Lucia trying to be magitek free. Maybe it's an Eorzean Alchemist studying Garlean combat techniques with you to better learn their methods.
There are lots of ways to do it that would make for a fun job!

I would love a chemist, but since dancer is so popular I can actually see dancer being added as a healer for 5.0 instead of them, and it's a shame too because chemist feels much more like a healer than dancer.

Blue Mage is the last "totally should be in a FF title" job we still need.
XIV version of RDM turned out great and true to the job despite not being a hybrid, SMN lacked focus for years (Were egi the focus of the job in ARR? What about trances in HW?) but with Stormblood we finally arrived to what the job should be about: build up with various abilities in between a strong but temporary summon.
With that said I'm very positive that the dev team would be more than capable of making an eventual Blue Mage fit mechanic wise into XIV while mantaining its original flavour.
As for its role? I would say a caster dps with many support tools since that's what they usually are but tanking could probably work aswell with the theme, I admit that a Blue Mage wearing fending armor would probably look off though.
I'd also love to have it look more like its FFV (and FFExplorers) version and not the XI one, as for the weapon...well anything could work, Blue Mage don't really have a fixed strong weapon identity.
As for other jobs?
With Blue Mage out of the way the possibilities are basically infinite, FF has many interesting jobs we could go for, or maybe even new ones.
Beastmaster could be a melee dps or even a tank, plus another pet based job would fit nicely in the game
Chemist could be a great mp-less healer.
It seems Oracle almost made it into the game, it could work as another caster or healer.
Dancer could work as a supportive melee dps or maybe somekind of healer aswell.
How about a Ranger using crossbows or a mace wielding tank of some sort?

A Cleric, healer using shield and mace wearing chain armor. Old school healing Dungeon and Dragons style.

True, but the ones that actually truly represent the job use swords, so I was thinking perhaps a gunblade with a crystal medium near the handle would be cool.as for the weapon...well anything could work, Blue Mage don't really have a fixed strong weapon identity.
And it would fit if we go to the Garlean empire.
Yoshida has been saying that he always wanted FFXIV to have its own original class. I think the next class will be a tank and healer and one will be a fan favourite and nother an orignal class.
Blue mage should be able to be all 3 roles, this can be easily balanced by Blue mage point system, where each skill/spell have a cost to setup, similar to how FFXI did it.
To setup specific role, all blue mage abilities falls into 3 categories tank, healer,DD and by assigning "enough" abilities for the current level, you will register/setup as that role (all cross-class abilities are available too but with a cost).
example:
level 16 Blue mage wants to be a healer in duty finder, in order to be recognized as "healer", at that level only 2 healing spells (any) are required
Pollen
Regenerate
Healing Breeze
Now he can add more healing spells to be more efficient or more DD or even trolling by adding tanking abilities, it doesn't matter as he has the required amount needed to do his job at that particular level, if he fulfilled the requirement of 2 roles at once, you can DF as both and when it finds an instance it will tell you which role you will enter as.

I think its too early for that imo. We just got two new jobs and the expansion is just a little over a week old
And because it's Garlean, I vote it should involve a hand-cannon. Ya know, because Garlean....
Means more time to plan.
