When something cannot be handled even by a group of semi-hardcore players, it's bad design.

It can if you keep practicing. I don't have a static group to do Ifrit with, so I haven't won yet either but you don't see me crying here. Very rarely do I get hit by Eruption and the few times I've attempted it with a pick-up group we've got him to as low as ~45%. When everyone can reliably avoid first Eruption, then Radiant Plume, the fight is in the bag.

I didn't read all the posts.... but did anyone tell the OP to play WoW?

I haven't played WoW in years but it used to have tons of content harder than Ifrit.
