SMN has been my main since it was introduced so naturally I played through it in Stormblood. So far I'm highly disappointed and can't see the forest for the trees with it. The two most crippling things are the loss of sustain and the overall lack of abilities prior to 70. Without sustain I'm finding it difficult to solo and certain fights are impossible to keep the pet alive in. I'm rather upset that this required ability has been instead implemented as a potion we have to purchase and carry on our person. There's no other battle class that has this burden so it feels unfair. If they wanted to avoid re-implementing the button itself, why not give the egi a trait which increases HP healed when the master uses physic on it?
I don't mind the damage nerf, I think it was probably due to us. Before I could easily out damage the majority of my peers without even trying too hard. My main disdain at the moment is that the new summoner has no battle flow. I find I have an excessive amount of downtime prior to level 70 where in I'm doing nothing but a repetitive mash of a single button. I've run into many times where I just don't have any abilities available off cool-down and have nothing to actively contribute. This has made content under 70 (the vast majority of the game) a bit dull.
At 70, the job just becomes a chaotic mess. I feel I have to stare at and flip through my cross bar a lot to get the most out of my 13 seconds of bahamut I spent the last few fights building up to. In the meanwhile things are happening about me that I'm having a hard time dividing my attention between. I thought all these changes were made to avoid this issue from Heavenward but it seems to only have introduced or exasperated it. I wouldn't say I'm angry about it, more so confused and a bit worn on it already. Currently looking for a new job to play![]()
