It is on the players who decide if they want to knowingly be on a server that has lots of congestion warnings on it during an expansion pack launch. It's not like you weren't warned that this was going to happen.
SE could also rewrite the backend, use a service that allow dynamic scaling of servers, and solve the problem at its root. There are far too many players being okay with a mediocre service, for a great game, and support SE by blaming the players.

And in case anyone doesn't understand what I'm saying...this is not the developer's fault. Clearly improving server quality is not on upper management's priority list or we would be able to queue commands without them being dropped.

about queue times. Sure I get that there's a queue, lots of people trying to log in.
What i don't get however is that i encountered a server lobby error myself multiple times over a VERY short period of time. And every time you're thrown back at the end of the queue. Seriously... I've been queuing longer than I've been actually playing last 4 days. At this moment it's like I'm paying SE to be in a queue!
Can they increase server capacity until things calm down? Yes they can! Will they do it? No they won't! Why? Because they try to make as much money as possible and server hardware is too expensive. They'd rather wait a month and lose some subs and wait for thing to calm down while people migrate to other servers than to spend a single dollar or euro on their servers.

Hate to say it, but all these "not regular subscribers" suddenly deciding now is a good time to come back online are the entire reason things are as bad as they are lol. You think this is annoying for newbies? Try being the one who's played and subscribed the entire time and then getting locked out when all these casuals show their face after years of being away. XP On the bright side, these people will probably get tired of it rather quickly and unsubscribe soon after.

I am 100% sure it is a bigger issue than just increasing server #s.

Their backend servers must be programmed to allow a dynamic number of servers and distribute the load accordingly. If this had been done from the start (it probably wasn't due to oversight, the Japanese are usually behind in this stuff because most of it comes from North America), they could just recruit additional servers on demand, even from a cloud source like Amazon.

However, because they didn't, upper management is probably prioritizing additional features over increasing quality of existing architecture. So until the players start leaving in droves due to this or making enough noise, this will not get fixed.

Source: Any software developer deals with this at work all the time.

My problem is that the reasoning behind not adding more tanks/healer is freaking bogus when the new jobs added are Sam/RDM. Screw statistics! I call bs on people going back to tank/heals over these new jobs. Those two classes are among the most popular in FF history. You know people love their samurai/katana stuff, and you know damned well people love their RDM! In my opinion, the queue times may get slightly shorter after a week or so, but I think they'll still be pretty damn long no matter what now. This crap just makes me not want to play. I guess i'll just drag one of the tank classes that bore me to 6x so I can play through the story zzz -_-"

Even so: that doesn't excuse the current pathetic long queue times on a lot of servers.
It's SE's 2nd FF14 expansion and you have to be a special human breed to be unable to foresee the current disaster as a possible outcome of a new expansion - even more so if you hype it up like they did with SB and the release of RDM and SMR.

And all you get from official side is: "Ups, we're so sorry for this completely foreseeable mess and we apologize - here have a 5000 player queue".
From where I stand those apologies are nothing but a rushed attempt at soothing the masses; and they're a good example of what having integrity and valuing your customers doesn't look like.

Nothing wrong with that point of view.
Though it doesn't help when you have to actually plan your playtime hours in advance because you have to sit through hour-long queue times.

I was on Gilgamesh since launch (and even moved my original Legacy character from Balmung once that was an option). A few weeks before the transfer incentives were announced, I moved to Mateus. If I had waited a little while, I could have kept all of my gil when transferring, gotten some gold feathers, and saved some money IRL too. But you know what? The positives of not being on those servers far, *far* outweigh those losses. If you don't want queues, you don't have to have them. If your friends won't move, that's their loss. You can still queue up with them using the cross-server party finder. Stop making excuses. Even if Square Enix did something about this, the experience would still be much better on a small server. Do yourself a favor and transfer. It costs the same as complaining!
