But this is like the final point in the game where they actually do this. Everything after has moved away from doing that.Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the story. But even as a story oriented person, I got so tired of the "run hither and thither" quests in 2.x that I lost track of the story because I simply got tired of talking to 5 different people in the same room, then traveling to 3 different points to talk to 3 different people, then traveling back with little to no reward only to find out that I'm 20 Ilvl's too low in my gear to progress to the next step in the MSQ.
Honestly if they just fixed the lvl 50 and lvl 60 MSQ and shoved it into 5 short quests with longer cut scenes then maybe we wouldn't need it. You know cut the fat out..... Also, leveling from 1 - 70 will be a night mare for most new players. They will have very long queue times for the dungeon story quests or low level dungeons in general.
I have created 2 other characters and leveled 1 of them to 60... by the time i finished the level 50 MSQ quests i was level 55.... that's 100 level 50 msq quests just to get into HW. Then Imagine having to go through HW's MSQ just to get into SB. New players will get burned out fast and some may quit the game for a long time.
I for one am glad they brought in the level and story jump potions. Jump Potion or no jump potion dedicated players will learn there roles/jobs in no time and the crappy players will continue to be crappy players no matter what happens.

Totally get where your coming from. It was actually an ironic twist of humor when I realized i had catchup to do. I came back to the game about 3 weeks ago, but I was literally sitting on my toons tinkering with crafting the whole time "I got the MSQ done back in the day, I'm covered!" about two days ago a little thought triggered in the back of my peabrain.."wait. they had like 3 big patches since then dude..." sure enough, huge bulks of story content added. I did a facepalm. That was when I decided I was very happy that they added the potions. I will definitely enjoy the cutscenes in my inn room (love the story), but....yeah...doing that grind again.../thread.
Edit: I do sympathize with people who want the Jump Potion to avoid the annoying grind required to clear the MSQ components the normal way. I will disagree with a Jump Potion until my dying day, but I think SE deserves every bit of anger they get for foolishly crafting a vertical story that requires you clear ALL previous content in order to access the new stuff. It's not like they didn't have FFXI to teach them how to properly approach expansions or anything.
First, any monkey can be taught to push buttons in a certain order. Learning a rotation is nothing special. What I'm talking about is group experience. As you so kindly said, everybody learns this through group activities like dungeons. You aren't going to learn that in a FATE. Every job has skills that aren't used all the time that need to be used when in a group. You need to weave those in so your normal rotation doesn't get hosed. Or in some situations doesn't get overly hosed. Group dynamics change your rotation. PotD hardly qualifies because everybody can and usually does run it as DPS for the first 100 floors even if they've queued as a tank or healer. You mean learn mechanics. The same way everyone does. By doing the dungeon and learning mechanics, but that doesn't mean they don't know how to work their job properly. Or are you saying you don't know your job rotation, skills and workings because you haven't experienced mechanics?
Edit: One nice thing they did with the jump potions was they didn't clear the dungeons in the duty finder. Squeenix does see the value of running them. So, even if they get the story skip, they will still have to grind those instances to do roulettes.

lol, you just keep dragging this discussion further and further from what it started as. Learning your job and learning mechanics are not the same. I don't need to play a dungeon and learn the mechanics of a fight to understand what provoke does, what my aggro abilities do, how to determine aggro, where I need to attack from for positions, what abilities timers and cooldowns do, how to judge who I should heal and how etc. Learning mechanics involves adapting your abilities, yes and that comes from experience, but by your logic no one truly knows their job unless they've experienced every fight mechanic, and learned it, in the game and not for long because new mechanics will eventually be added.First, any monkey can be taught to push buttons in a certain order. so what you are saying is that players wont receive that "group experience" by the time they reach level 70? I can understand your frustration if they made the jump potion from 1 to 70 this expansion but its not.First, any monkey can be taught to push buttons in a certain order. They will get the experience they need by the time they reach level 65. Half of the new players will jump on youtube, redit or this forum to learn more. Crappy players will continue to be crappy players with or w/out the jump potions.
Were numbers invented or discovered? How many Moogles does it take to make Kuponut rum? Answer: zero... They will give you a quest to make it.
