Not like there is much choice. If they haven't done HW story why skip it - it'll be good for a little exp boost on SAM/RDM since we can't boost these two to 60.
I was hoping we could but guess it's level grinding to 60 is what I'm ready for :'c
No cause already got most at 60 n finished story
This thread seems like a reasonable place to put this. So I just started the game 2 weeks ago and got my machinist to 59 and 3/4th's before the downtime. But depending on the grind to get 230 ilevel I am thinking about buying the story skip. Having said that it feels like a bit of a waste to buy it to skip 50 quests. Thoughts?
Im gonna skip. not because I want 0-60. I already got 2 60's and a few in their mid 50's. I'm not doing the job boost for obvious reasons, just unlocking the new content. why? because I joined to check out the new material. I finished HW MSQ back when it first released. I came back because they are fixing (IMO) my favorite class, the bard. and I don't feel like having to do the same grind I did with the MSQ post 50. I'll go back and enjoy the cutscenes at my leisure, and pick up on the new story with everyone else.
I don't mind the leveling at all, especially if your starting on a new server (or low pop server) it will be crazy fast. What I don't feel like doing is 3 patches worth of MSQ that will make me talk to 20 different people then send me to a HM dungeon (that I don't have the gear or gil for). even if i was starting at level one I'd still get the potion to boost the story. well, honestly, I'd probably do the story up to lvl 50 base (a.k.a 2.0) since it helps leveling anyways, then scoot ahead. HW is a fun story, but if you add that into the MSQ post 50 in ARR it tends to make your eyes bleed.
EDIT: Hope this helps albinosmurf. It's not just the quests, it's the grind to get to 230 to do the involved dungeons that will take time. unless you have plenty of GIL and/or rich FC buddies. in your state (new-ish player) you probably don't. There's a small possibility that the vendor white gear they offer in the new areas will be tradeable, or perhaps the new white craftable gear cheap (doubt it). you may be able to skip the ilvl grind with those resources.
Or if your like me, just level to 60 and spend 25-ish on the unlock potion and call it good.
EDIT EDIT: Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the story. But even as a story oriented person, I got so tired of the "run hither and thither" quests in 2.x that I lost track of the story because I simply got tired of talking to 5 different people in the same room, then traveling to 3 different points to talk to 3 different people, then traveling back with little to no reward only to find out that I'm 20 Ilvl's too low in my gear to progress to the next step in the MSQ.

Nothing has changed from my perspective.
People who want to take their time to learn their class even after using a potion will. All you need are some basics and then evolve from there. In addition, now that every job has had an overhaul, the only thing that's going to set apart the jump users and non-users are mechs because we're all going to be tinkering with the job changes.
Healing DRK is literally... the same since ShB. The reason why people think it's a meme to heal nowadays because DRK receives very little to no buff to their sustainability vs 3 other tanks getting something useful. If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.
/thread.
The worst aspect of FFXIV's development has been SE adhering to the old notion of the customer always being right. There are exceptions here and there (especially involving aspects of the game their programmers aren't competent enough to effectively implement, like a Glamour log), but generally speaking, if people have asked for something to be easier, SE has delivered. Jump potions? Sure. Assistance with hard fights? Let's weaken certain mechanics and introduce the Echo. Don't want to (heaven forbid) level a second combat class for its abilities? Welcome to the Role system! Oh, and we'll even introduce upgraded versions of previously-exclusive Crafter abilities so that you don't have to bother leveling, say, Weaver, for Careful Synthesis II.
It's a shame, too, because the core of FFXIV's world is spectacular. The art direction, the storyline, the myriad little things there are to do around Eorzea - all are fantastic. The only core underlying problem that I can identify is SE's rabid devotion to trivializing content. I don't care if people like such fluff; people liked the new Pirates movie, too, or the Phantom Menace. That doesn't mean they were any good.
Edit: I do sympathize with people who want the Jump Potion to avoid the annoying grind required to clear the MSQ components the normal way. I will disagree with a Jump Potion until my dying day, but I think SE deserves every bit of anger they get for foolishly crafting a vertical story that requires you clear ALL previous content in order to access the new stuff. It's not like they didn't have FFXI to teach them how to properly approach expansions or anything.
