Would it really be bold when Papalymo died and Minfillia is as good as dead?

We did see a glimpse of a Dragoon during the trailer, which may or may not be Estinien. I'm fairly certain he will die.

As for Y'shtola. It's hard to say. On one hand, she is basically FFXIV's poster child in Asia. On the other hand, aside from her lifespan being limited, I find it surprisingly noticable that Lyse is being pushed to the forefront so much with the promotional material of Stormblood. To the point of being both a main character in the cinematic trailer and standing at the front in the logo of Stormblood! Could SE be trying to replace Y'shtola with Lyse as FFXIV's new poster child?

Personally I thought they played it safe by killing off Papalymo. Then again I was never really invested in his character, so idk how the community at large felt about the whole thing.

My guess is it will be Thancred. I'm predicting that he will ultimately sacrifice himself for one of the other Scions. He's my favorite of the Scions and he has such a tragic history that it would only be fitting for him to go out protecting someone like Y'Shtola or even Tataru.

I can see either Yugiri or Gosetsu dying.... maybe even both.

Hien and Lies seems to be the leaders of the rebellions of their respective nations and will probably be the leaders once both are liberated.

Well, here's hoping they're bold enough to kill off a handful of major characters throughout 4.0 without the cop out of bringing them back to life or simply faking their demise like with Nanamo.

Funny thing about Nanamo is that he didn't actually do much (or at all) since she came back. She totally could have stayed dead.

HW ending was anti-climatic, so SE made the trailer to pull people in with a cliffhanger.

Sure it was anti-climactic compared to the red wedding...err...banquet, but after ARR people complained that we spent 3 months being a fugitive in theory but being able to waltz into Ul'dah in our underpants in reality.

Well it does seem that Papalymo doesn't have such a huge fanbase as Y'shtola for example. He was sacreficed to be the final push for Lyse to decide she had enough of being Yda and turn into Ada the b***h in the red dress, instead.
But it did show that Square Enix indeed has the guts to permanently kill off a major character.
